Wilhelmsfeld combines marked trails with stories that can be seen at specific places. Rizal Park is home to a life-size bronze statue, a memorial stone commemorates a historic hike, and a nearby observation tower opens up views across the peaks of the Odenwald and the Rhine Plain. You can tailor your stay to a wide range of interests: exercise, views or culture.

Hiking Trails and Winter Routes

Kilometres of marked hiking trails around the health resort of Wilhelmsfeld invite you to explore on foot. One clearly defined longer tour is the “Nostalgic Fountain Hike through Wilhelmsfeld”: the route is of moderate difficulty, 10.4 kilometres long and takes about three hours and 30 minutes. The Comfort Hiking Trail 2, “Hike in Köhlerwald,” also runs nearby, north of Wilhelmsfeld. At 2.8 kilometres long, it offers a different kind of route.

There are also designated routes for Nordic walking and winter sports: three routes of 3.3 to 8.5 kilometres start from the “Am Hirschwald” hiking car park. The tour can also be started at Potsdamer Platz in Heiligkreuzsteinach. Wilhelmsfeld has three cross-country ski trails, measuring 4, 5 and 10 kilometres. The start and finish point is the “Am Hirschwald” hiking car park, accessible via Altenbacher Straße and Alte Römerstraße. The cross-country ski trails depend on snow conditions.

Places of Remembrance in the Town

A life-size bronze statue of José Rizal stands in Rizal Park near the Odenwaldhalle. The park was inaugurated in 1978. Information boards illustrate stages in Rizal’s life and the journey of his companions. The statue and boards make the park a tangible place to learn about his life story.

Another historical reminder can be found at the start of the “Kleiner Philosophenweg” hiking trail. The Sissi memorial stone there commemorates the 1885 hike from Heidelberg to Wilhelmsfeld by Elisabeth “Sissi” of Austria and her daughter Valerie. Its connection to a specific event gives the memorial a distinctive character alongside the trails that invite visitors to hike today.

Panoramic Views Nearby

The viewing platform of the Teltschik observation tower is around 36 metres high. From the tower, panoramic views extend across the peaks of the Odenwald and the Rhine Plain; on a clear day, you can see as far as the Palatinate Forest. The viewpoint complements the local trails with views over a wider landscape. When planning, you can choose between a specific hiking route and an outing for the views, without conflating these different goals.

Other Highlights in the Rhine-Neckar District

The wider travel destination of the Rhine-Neckar District also offers cultural and culinary attractions in other places. The Electoral Palatinate’s Schwetzingen Palace features a Rococo theatre and a world-famous park; asparagus has also been grown in Schwetzingen for around 350 years. In Ladenburg’s historic town centre, much of the townscape still reflects the Middle Ages and, in part, Roman times. These examples add further points of interest to the district alongside Wilhelmsfeld’s hiking trails, viewpoints and places of remembrance.
