Ammerbuch combines landscapes of particular distinction with striking castle architecture and a European cultural connection. This mix makes different perspectives on a trip possible: landscapes and views can take centre stage just as much as architectural history or a combination of both. You can choose your own focus when planning your trip without having to settle on a single theme.

Landscapes in Ammerbuch

The Schönbuch and the Ammertal are among the landscapes especially showcased to visitors in Ammerbuch. Other featured sights include the airfield, orchards and vineyards. This brings together two named landscape areas with a range of other, varied attractions. If you are travelling together, you can decide as you plan whether landscapes, views or the different attractions should take priority.

Hohenentringen Castle and its history

Hohenentringen Castle lies above Entringen. The elongated, three-storey stone building with a hipped roof dates from the 15th and 16th centuries. From its courtyard, the view stretches across Ammerbuch and the Upper Gäu as far as the Black Forest. The building’s design, its date and the view each offer a different perspective: the architecture gives the castle a distinct character, while the distant panorama places the landscape in a wider context.

Since 2021, Ammerbuch has been part of the Heinrich Schickhardt European Cultural Route, a cultural route recognised by the Council of Europe. It links important sites associated with the life and work of the Renaissance master builder Heinrich Schickhardt. Alongside the castle architecture, this offers another explicitly European cultural connection to consider when planning a trip.

There is also a dated connection for hiking enthusiasts: in spring 2018, two circular routes in Ammerbuch were added to the range of premium hiking trails and premium walking trails in the FrĂĽchtetrauf area.

TĂĽbingen in its wider landscape and cultural setting

Tübingen district stretches from the Schönbuch Nature Park, with its many forests and valleys, in the north to the Alb escarpment in the south. The Neckar, Ammer and Steinlach rivers have cut through the district’s cuesta landscape, creating a varied region. The district’s landscapes include the wooded areas of the Rammert and the Schönbuch Nature Park, high plateaus with sweeping views, orchards and vineyards. This regional perspective complements the landscapes especially highlighted in Ammerbuch with other landscape types found in Tübingen district.

The cultural sites in the Tübingen destination also offer their own distinctive experiences. The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Hohentübingen Castle is the only university museum in the world with exhibits from two UNESCO World Heritage inscriptions. It displays figurative artworks dating back 40,000 years, as well as the oldest musical instruments. The Unterjesingen Wine Press Museum displays an extensive collection of equipment and objects relating to wine and hop growing, as well as farming and household management since the 19th century. The region’s themes thus range from figurative art and musical instruments to viticulture, farming and household management.
