Discover Kusterdingen
Accommodation in Kusterdingen
Kusterdingen brings together architectural history, local cultural activities and a connection to protected nature. Its defining features include the late Gothic Protestant parish church, the Klosterhof as a venue for a cultural association, and the part of the Blaulach Nature Reserve that lies within the municipality. These different highlights offer you a range of ideas for planning your trip.
History at St. Mary’s Church
Kusterdingen’s St. Mary’s Church was rebuilt in 1506 on the site of an earlier church. The Protestant parish church in Kusterdingen is a unified late Gothic building dating from 1506/07; its ceiling paintings are from the same period. The church underwent extensive renovations in 1886/87, 1954/55 and 2000/01. Its construction and furnishings therefore date from the same period, while the three renovation phases mark later chapters in its architectural history.
Culture and protected nature
The civic and cultural center by the Klosterhof is located at Tübinger Straße 5–7 and is accessible to wheelchair users. Please check this information again before your arrival. The Klosterhof is also the venue of the Art at City Hall working group. This volunteer group aims to promote cultural life throughout the municipality of Kusterdingen. Different cultural perspectives are therefore in focus: the church’s architectural history and the cultural activities based at the Klosterhof, which are intended for the entire municipality.
The Blaulach adds a natural dimension to these themes. Part of the 12-hectare Blaulach Nature Reserve lies within the municipality of Kusterdingen. This figure refers to the reserve as a whole; the portion within the municipality is part of that total.
Getting here and choosing accommodation
Kusterdingen is well connected by road via the B28 and B27. Local public transport is organized by the Neckar-Alb-Donau transport association. Check the routes and timetables that suit your trip in advance. If you are looking for accommodation, your planned activities and how you will travel can help guide your choice: consider which aspects you want to focus on and what you would like to prioritize about the location. If people in your travel group have different interests, you can treat history, culture and nature as separate planning priorities.
More to discover in the wider Tübingen destination
In the wider Tübingen destination, the district stretches from the Schönbuch Nature Park, with its forests and valleys, in the north to the Alb escarpment in the south. The Neckar, Ammer and Steinlach rivers have cut through the district’s cuesta landscape, creating a varied region. Its landscape includes the wooded areas of the Rammert and Schönbuch Nature Park, plateaus with wide-ranging views, orchards and vineyards. These regional landscape features place Kusterdingen in a broader context.
The cultural offerings in the wider Tübingen destination also cover a range of interests. The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Hohentübingen Castle is the only university museum in the world with exhibits from two UNESCO World Heritage inscriptions. It displays 40,000-year-old figurative artworks as well as the oldest musical instruments. Another collection can be found at the Unterjesingen Wine Press Museum, with tools and objects related to wine and hop growing, as well as farming and domestic life, dating from the 19th century onward.
The interior of Bebenhausen Palace can only be visited as part of a guided tour. The tour explores Cistercian monastery architecture as well as the everyday lives of the monks and the royal couple. Check dates and availability before planning your visit. A guided tour offers a different way to explore cultural history than the museum collections.
