Diepolz brings together church art, Allgäu alpine farming life and trails with mountain views. St. Blasius Church reflects a long history of construction and furnishings; the Alpine Farming Museum in Immenstadt-Diepolz brings traditional and present-day farming life and work to life. The Kuhnigundenweg offers a different focus, with play and information stations, while the panoramic circular tour to Akams brings the Nagelfluhkette into view. When planning your trip, you can choose how to balance culture, family-oriented activities and time outdoors.

Alpine Farming Life and the Kuhnigundenweg

The Allgäu Alpine Farming Museum in Immenstadt-Diepolz is located at an altitude of more than 1,000 metres and is an open-air museum. Its historic buildings illustrate how Allgäu alpine farmers lived in the past and live today. Hands-on activities, old livestock breeds and farming practices are among its topics, as are Allgäu alpine pasture farming and dairy farming.

The museum farm offers insights into everyday tasks on a farm: feeding and milking animals, mucking out the stable and driving the animals out to pasture. The activities range from caring for the animals to taking them out to the pasture. This lets you encounter everyday farming life not just as a topic, but through specific work routines.

The Kuhnigundenweg is a family adventure trail in Diepolz, with play and information stations around the Alpine Farming Museum. Its combination of play and information offers a different focus from the museum’s buildings and farming practices. This makes it a family-oriented way to bring together alpine farming life and outdoor discovery.

Sattler Farm and Courses

Sattler Farm is a 300-year-old log farmhouse. It originally stood in Schöllang near Oberstdorf and was moved to Diepolz in 2007. Its origins and relocation give the building a story of its own alongside the themes of the Alpine Farming Museum.

Sattler Farm offers educational activities and courses for all ages by prior registration. These include butter-making and courses on bees, herbs and felting. The topics range from processing milk to bees and herbs to felting. If you plan to take part in one of these activities, advance registration is required.

St. Blasius: Building History and Furnishings

St. Blasius Church in Diepolz was largely rebuilt between 1509 and 1517, baroqued in 1783/84 and remodelled in the neo-Gothic style in 1889. Its building history thus reveals several different design periods. Its furnishings include a baptismal font dating from 1490, prominent bosses in the chancel arches and a sacrament house north of the high altar.

The nave contains paintings of the Fourteen Holy Helpers and the Stations of the Cross. The church also has a processional cross from the first half of the 13th century and a striking neo-Gothic coffered ceiling featuring zodiac signs. The religious imagery and ceiling complement the earlier and later architectural features with details of the interior furnishings.

Winter Trails and Mountain Views

In winter, there are around 25 kilometres of groomed winter hiking trails from Stein to Diepolz and from Akams to Knottenried. For a different perspective, take the panoramic circular tour from Diepolz to Akams: it reaches an altitude of 1,060 metres and offers views of the Nagelfluhkette mountains. The routes differ in season and character: groomed winter hiking trails on the one hand, and a circular tour with mountain views on the other.

More Cultural and Hiking Destinations in Immenstadt i.Allgäu

Immenstadt i.Allgäu offers other options to consider when planning your trip. The Hofmühle Museum is a regional museum specialising in the Upper Allgäu, with 1,000 m² of exhibition space. The Alpsee circular trail is a moderately difficult route around the Großer Alpsee: it is 10.94 kilometres long and starts and ends at the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park Centre in Bühl. In comparison, the Diepolz panoramic circular tour to Akams focuses on views of the Nagelfluhkette. You can weigh up museum themes, a hike around the Alpsee and mountain panoramas as different interests for your stay.
