Wiggensbach brings together cultural history, outdoor activities and insights into cheese-making. The local history collection at the Wiggensbach Information Centre “WIZ” covers topics ranging from geology and local history to agriculture and art. Outside, a signposted 10-kilometre Nordic walking route leads back to Wiggensbach. Other highlights include the parish church of St. Pankratius, a 27-hole golf course and the organic show dairy. You can tailor your stay to suit a range of interests.

Local history, church and art

The local history collection of the municipality of Wiggensbach at the WIZ covers geology, local history, rural living and religious folk art. It also features art treasures from the Gothic and Baroque periods, crafts, trade and agriculture, as well as the school system. Its subject matter thus spans everything from the landscape and everyday life to art and education.

The parish church of St. Pankratius in Wiggensbach is considered the most significant independent work by Johann Georg Specht. The WIZ exhibition programme includes paintings in oil, watercolour, acrylic and mixed media, as well as sculptures, photographs, craftwork and nativity scene exhibitions. Local history and changing art forms offer a range of cultural highlights.

Hiking and Nordic walking

The signposted Nordic walking route starts at the market square in Wiggensbach and is 10 kilometres long. It goes via the Blender, Schmidsreute and Westenried before returning to Wiggensbach. The named locations and starting point make the route easy to follow; its length also clearly distinguishes it from the longer Wiesengänger Route.

The Wiesengänger Route covers 274 kilometres over 15 stages, passing through Marktoberdorf, Kaufbeuren, Bad Wörishofen, Ottobeuren, Bad Grönenbach, Altusried, Wiggensbach and Schmidsfelden, among other places, before continuing to Eglofs. This gives you two different route options for planning your trip: a signposted 10-kilometre route and a 15-stage route covering 274 kilometres.

Golf and cheese-making

The Golfclub Waldegg-Wiggensbach e. V. has a 27-hole course, described as Germany’s highest-altitude golf course and its only mountain golf course. One of the course’s special features is hole 5, Kreuzberg: the tee is at an altitude of 1,011 metres and is described as Germany’s highest-altitude tee. From here, you can enjoy far-reaching views.

The organic show dairy in Wiggensbach offers a different perspective on regional production. On a guided tour, visitors can go behind the scenes and see how Allgäu hay milk is made into speciality cheeses. Learning about the production process adds a culinary dimension to the town’s cultural and outdoor activities.
