Schorndorf brings together play, outdoor activities and cultural experiences as different reasons to stay. An adventure playground lies at the entrance to the village; its grounds are also home to the Funbox skate park. For walking, you can choose between the Sd02 circular trail and the Sd01 hiking trail, each with its own distinct features. The international Regensburg–Cham–Pilsen Festival Cycle Route also passes directly through the village. Every July, the Schorndorf amateur theatre group performs folk theatre against the backdrop of a castle. Depending on whether you want to focus on play, hiking, cycling or theatre, you’ll find a different reason to discover the village.

Play and Outdoor Activities

The adventure playground is at the entrance to Schorndorf from the direction of Michelsneukirchen. It includes a football pitch where children can play and let off steam, a water play area, and balancing and climbing equipment. The Funbox skate park is on the same grounds. For families with children, the football pitch is a clearly designated place to play; the water play area, climbing and balancing offer other ways to get active.

The fitalParc offers a different kind of activity: several stations and a sequence of exercise equipment train coordination and strength. Here, the focus is on a series of stations and equipment rather than a single play structure. When planning your visit, you can therefore distinguish between opportunities to play and let off steam at the adventure playground and a circuit with specific training goals.

Circular Trail and Woodland Hiking Trail

The Sd02 circular trail starts at the information board in Schorndorf and passes through Hötzing, Kühberg, Sandberg, Thierling and Stegmühle before returning to the information board. The start and finish are clearly marked, and the named places give you a precise idea of the route. Along the way, the Gutshof Hötzing offers a place to stop at a beer garden with an old wooden skittle alley. Shortly before Thierling, a field track on Sd02 opens up views of Schorndorf and its surroundings.

The Sd01 hiking trail follows the Längseugenweg, a shaded woodland trail with viewpoints. The route passes through Neuhaus; the castle complex there is recommended as a place to stop and visit. For choosing your hike, this offers a clear comparison: Sd02 is a loop passing through named places and offering an opportunity to stop for refreshments; Sd01 combines a shaded woodland trail with viewpoints and the recommended stop to visit the castle complex in Neuhaus.

Cycle Route and Folk Theatre

If you enjoy cycling, the international Regensburg–Cham–Pilsen Festival Cycle Route offers another specific option: it passes directly through Schorndorf. Alongside the walking trails, this provides a clearly named cycle route as a reason to visit in its own right.

Every July, the Schorndorf amateur theatre group performs folk theatre in the castle setting as part of “Theatre at Neuhaus Castle.” The recurring July date gives culture lovers a clear seasonal point of reference. If you would like to make a performance the focus of your trip, check current local announcements for specific details.
