In Bergen, mountains, moorland, trails and culture come together as different ways to shape your stay. The Hochfelln cable car, Bergener Moos and the spa gardens in the town centre show different sides of the area. The Bergen Theatre Association is also part of its story, with a history dating back to the 19th century. When looking for accommodation, you can consider whether mountain activities, a tour through the countryside or a cultural event should be the highlight of your stay.

Hochfelln: different ways to reach the mountain

A ride on the Bergen Hochfelln cable car takes 15 minutes; Hochfelln is 1,674 metres high. The journey time is a useful reference when planning; check current operating details before your ride. You can also reach Hochfelln on foot or by bike. Activities listed include hiking, Nordic walking and mountain biking. This gives you a choice of different ways to explore the mountain. Hochfelln is also described as a natural-snow paradise in the area around Bergen. Snow and operating conditions vary by season.

Bergener Moos: landscape and nature conservation

Bergener Moos covers 400 hectares. It formed after the Chiemsee glacier melted, in an eastern bay of the much larger original Lake Chiemsee, which has since silted up. This history gives the moor a clear connection to the former landscape of Lake Chiemsee. The area's conservation designations also differ in scope: the central raised bog area, “Zetten”, has been protected since 1978; the whole of Bergener Moos was designated a NATURA 2000 site in 2004. The moor is also home to one of the last populations in Germany of the marsh orchid, which is threatened with extinction in the country.

Hiking and places to visit in the town centre

A circular hiking trail leads from Bergen to the district of Bernhaupten. The Bergen-Weißachental-Kohlstatt hike is rated easy and is 5.4 kilometres long. For this route, its length and difficulty rating can help you plan your time; check current conditions before setting out.

The Kurpark Bergen spa gardens are located right in the town centre. They have a Kneipp water-treading facility and a mini golf course. So, alongside mountain activities and hiking trails, you can also visit a destination in the town centre. If you plan to visit the spa gardens, check the current operating status of the facilities in advance.

Theatre tradition in Bergen

Founded by Josef Pletschacher in 1879, the Bergen Theatre Association is one of the oldest associations in Bergen. In addition to rural plays, it performs special works for children, including fairy tales and crime plays. This makes the association a cultural attraction in its own right, alongside the nature and hiking opportunities. If you are travelling with children, the performances for children may be an interesting activity. You can find out which works are currently being performed from the association's announcements.

When planning your accommodation, you can take your interests into account: activities on Hochfelln, trails and landscapes in Bergener Moos, or culture. The offerings mentioned vary in nature; plan your stay around what you would like to experience in Bergen.
