Hiking trails pass through Braunersberg and connect the district with notable spots in the surrounding area. Different routes highlight different features: the Mohrenstein circular trail passes several stops, while the Kuckuck Trail descends to Braunersberg. There are also viewpoints, protected areas, and places to eat and enjoy leisure activities nearby.

Hiking around Braunersberg

The Mohrenstein circular trail runs from Obernsees through Braunersberg, the Knockhütte and Truppach to the Obernsees thermal baths, then back to Obernsees. It is 7 km long, has an elevation gain of 120 metres and takes about 3 hours. Through Braunersberg, the trail is marked in both directions with a green ring. After descending from the Knock, it reaches the district and then passes through the “Schöne Aussicht” residential development. Along the way, there is also a wayside cross with a bench, considered a place for prayer or relaxation.

The marked Kuckuck Trail “To the Knockhütte” offers a different route: it is about 9 km long and takes approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. This makes it longer than the Mohrenstein circular trail, although the stated duration is shorter. After the Knockhütte, the Kuckuck Trail descends steeply to Braunersberg. From the district, it crosses the Ehrlichbach, also known as the Busbach, and continues past Burgleite and the Untere Mühle in the direction of Busbach.

Other trail descriptions highlight different features. The Lindig circular trail offers a view of Braunersberg from above the hamlet of Gries. The Schönfeld circular trail passes above the districts of Braunersberg and Gries, then follows a forest path back to its starting point in Schönfeld. When planning, you can therefore choose between a tour with the named stops along the Mohrenstein Trail, the steep descent of the Kuckuck Trail, or routes with viewpoints or forest sections.

Nature and things to do nearby

The “Knock bei Obernsees” nature reserve lies between Obernsees and Schönfeld and covers about 14 hectares. North of Braunersberg, the “Ehrlichbachaue bei Obernsees” FFH site stretches along the Ehrlichbach, which is also known as the Busbach. These two areas provide a scenic backdrop to the names you will also encounter along the trails.
