Marktrodach: Rafting Heritage and Active Days
Accommodation in Marktrodach
Marktrodach combines rafting heritage with hiking opportunities and sporting activities in the Franconian Forest Nature Park. In Unterrodach, the museum and church recall rafting on the Rodach; the Rodachtal Trail KC 11 leads to several destinations in the village. Radspitze and the mountain biking opportunities add further options for active visitors.
Rafting culture in the museum and village landscape
Since 1981, the Unterrodach Rafting Museum has been housed in a former rafting master’s house and is the museum of the Marktrodach municipality. Marktrodach also has numerous magnificent rafting masters’ houses. In St. Michael’s Parish Church in Unterrodach, an anchor and a raft model recall rafting on the Rodach, which shaped the village. You can encounter the subject in different places: in the museum, the village landscape and the church.
A visit to the Rafting Museum outside regular opening hours is possible by prior arrangement with the Marktrodach municipal administration. Please arrange your visit a few days in advance. If the museum is a fixed part of your itinerary, allow for this lead time when planning.
Hiking and outdoor activities
The Rodachtal Trail KC 11 is an easy, 13.1-kilometre hiking route with 112 metres of elevation gain. In Unterrodach, it leads to the church, town hall and Rafting Museum, among other places. Its length, elevation gain and difficulty rating give you concrete information to compare the route with your own hiking plans. The Frankenweg crosses Unterrodach on its route from Marktrodach-Zeyern to Weismain.
Radspitze also offers a sporting highlight: paragliding and hang gliding are described as options for active visitors from this 678-metre-high mountain. At the Kreuzberg airfield, motorised and glider aircraft are among the other flight options mentioned. Marktrodach also offers good conditions for mountain bikers and for people who would like to take up mountain biking.
The Radspitze Tower is freely accessible; it may be closed due to weather conditions during the winter months. If you plan to visit the tower, check access in advance, especially for a winter trip.
