Roßbach combines cycling and hiking routes with a species-rich landscape, a listed historic building and living customs. A stay can therefore focus on different things: outdoor activity, experiencing nature or learning about architectural and local history. When looking for accommodation, it helps to consider which of these themes will shape your travel plans most. The local routes and cultural points of interest offer several specific ways to do this.

Cycling and hiking routes in Roßbach

A signposted XperBike circular route runs through the municipality of Roßbach, as does the Kollbach cycle path. The Roßbach Hiking Trail 1 has a specific starting point: it begins at the school in Roßbach and initially heads south along Kirchplatzstraße. The routes can be compared by their different points of reference: the XperBike circular route focuses on signposting and the loop, while Hiking Trail 1 is defined by its starting point at the school and its first section. A nature walk organised by the municipality also went from Roßbach Primary School via Kronwittberg to the “Grotte”, a widely known chapel in the forest between Roßbach and Kröhstorf.

Nature and architectural history

The municipality of Roßbach is home to a regionally significant diversity of habitats and a high diversity of species. This diversity has resulted from various historical and current forms of land use. Free themed walks led by volunteer experts are also offered. This presents habitat diversity as part of the landscape alongside guided nature experiences as different ways to explore the subject of nature.

A specific point of interest in architectural history is the listed residential stable house at Keföd 1, 94439 Roßbach. Built in 1697, it is one of the oldest surviving buildings of this type. This adds a specific example of cultural history to the themes of routes and nature.

Annual customs

Bonfires are lit throughout the municipality for the summer solstice on 21 June. Clubs typically organise a summer solstice festival as part of their annual programme. St Florian’s Day is also celebrated together: the municipality’s seven fire brigades parade in uniform with flags, attend Mass and then gather for a social get-together. The customs have different focal points: the summer solstice is tied to 21 June, while St Florian’s Day centres on the fire brigades’ shared celebration.

Culture in the wider Rottal-Inn destination

The wider Rottal-Inn destination offers further cultural themes to complement Roßbach’s local highlights. The “Gothic Tours” take residents and tourists to selected Gothic monuments, with brochures, maps, the tour portal and the Gothic Portal as resources. The Gothic Portal also offers audio guides to Gothic buildings that can be accessed on site, as well as an online museum with information, knowledge and learning resources. The Theater an der Rott offers a different focus: every year, it stages premieres in drama, musicals, concerts, dance, operetta and opera. It is the only theatre in Germany owned by a district.
