Hiking trails, orchards and cultural sites give Hösbach its varied character: one trail leads to a fountain in the valley, a nature trail runs through the municipal forest, and the late Baroque pilgrimage church stands in Schmerlenbach. During your stay, you can choose between outdoor activities and cultural history stops.

Out and about among fountains, forests and meadows

The trail to the Wandererbrunnen begins in the southwest of Hösbach at the Waldschenke. It climbs gently through an unspoilt, idyllic valley alongside a stream; after about 15 minutes, you’ll reach the fountain. In the Hösbach-Sand district, the forest nature trail starts at the Froschmaul-Brunnen. It runs for about three kilometres through the municipal forest. The walk takes around 30 minutes and is suitable for strolls with children.

In the Rottenberg district, a circular route of about 45 minutes passes through orchards and fields. Seasonal and trail conditions may vary, so it’s best to check the current conditions before setting out. The three time estimates offer a practical comparison for planning your day: about 15 minutes to the Wandererbrunnen, around 30 minutes for the forest nature trail and about 45 minutes for the circular route in Rottenberg.

The well-marked route from the Wandererbrunnen via the “Drei Kreuze” to Schmerlenbach, also known as “Sieben Wege,” is suitable for mountain biking and challenging cross-country running. The well-maintained Günthersbach/Kniebreche circular route between Hösbach and Wenighösbach passes a former brickworks. If you run up to the hilltop, you can enjoy the view across the valley.

The walking and cycling path from Hösbach to Wenighösbach runs parallel to the road and is particularly suitable for trips with a stroller or inline skates. The route from Hösbach-Bahnhof towards Steiger and Weyberhöfe is especially suitable for cycling. As the road layout may change, check the current route before setting out. Hiking, jogging, walking and cycling are activities in Hösbach that do not require a car.

The Waldschwimmbad Rottenberg is an outdoor swimming pool and a meeting place for sports, relaxation and leisure activities. When looking for accommodation in Hösbach, consider which activities best suit your days: strolls, forest trails, cycling or cultural history. The different trail types and time estimates can help you weigh up your interests.

Cultural sites and history in Schmerlenbach

The “Hösbacher Kulturpunkte” (Hösbach Cultural Sites) present part of the cultural landscape of the lower Aschaff Valley; the starting point is the school centre. The six stops cover geology, nature conservation, the cultural landscape, industrial heritage and village history. There is also a panoramic view of the Aschaff Valley and the Spessart. The route includes a climb of about 50 metres.

The late Baroque pilgrimage church in Hösbach’s Schmerlenbach district was built in 1758/59 under Abbess Engelberta von Rodenhausen. The church’s oldest work of art is a Pietà, about 30 centimetres high, dating from around 1380.

In the Aschaffenburg district

As a separate regional option, the Aschaffenburg destination offers further hiking opportunities: Spessart Trails 1, 2 and 3 run through the Aschaffenburg district and have already received the German Hiking Association’s “Quality Trails – Wanderbares Deutschland” award four times. The Eselsweg is a multi-day hike in the district.

For cycling, the family-friendly MainRadweg runs through the Main Valley in the Aschaffenburg district and is well signposted. Local signage may change, so check it before your ride.
