Allershausen between the banks of the Glonn and market days

In Allershausen’s New Town Center, the banks of the Glonn are accessible and invite you to linger. The riverside area adds a distinctive feature to the town: it can be included as a stop in its own right during the day, alongside a visit to the market or a look at the municipality’s churches. When planning a trip, taking quieter moments like these into account as well as individual sights can help you balance the different interests of your group.

The Allershausen market days in 2026 will take place from February to November on the first Saturday of each month at the Volksfestplatz. Fresh regional food and handcrafted products are on offer. This sets out a clear schedule for the 2026 market year; the market combines shopping with a glimpse of regional produce and craftsmanship. For planning purposes, it is important to treat the dates listed as the calendar for 2026.

Churches in the municipality of Allershausen

The branch church of St. Leonhard in the municipality of Allershausen is a hall church that probably dates from the late Middle Ages and was remodeled in the early 17th century. Its west tower with an onion dome dates from around 1700. St. Leonhard thus reveals a building history spanning several periods: the hall church retains an older foundation, while the remodeling and tower add further historical layers.

The branch church of St. Brictius in the municipality of Allershausen reflects a different period. It is a Baroque hall church dating from 1709/10, which probably incorporates the medieval predecessor building. Together, the two churches offer different points of interest for those interested in regional architectural history: St. Leonhard represents a building that probably dates from the late Middle Ages, while St. Brictius is a Baroque hall church that probably incorporates its medieval predecessor. Both churches belong to the municipality of Allershausen.

Nature and routes in the wider Freising destination

The wider Freising destination offers its own natural and cultural landscapes in addition to Allershausen’s local attractions. The Amper Valley in the district of Freising is used as a local recreation area for hiking and cycling and is designated as a protected landscape area. It is also home to numerous animal and plant species worthy of special protection, including four of the 16 dragonfly species threatened with extinction in Bavaria. The natural area therefore combines protected landscape status with remarkable biodiversity.

For cycling enthusiasts, a cycling map presented in 2021 covers the entire local cycling network in the district of Freising, the Isar Cycle Route, the Ammer-Amper Cycle Route, classified with four stars, and around 20 different suggested cycling tours. Freising offers two walking routes of different lengths and purposes: the 13.5-kilometer Culture & Nature Circular Route leads to Freising’s key sights. The approximately 11-kilometer Freising Way of St. James starts at Freising Cathedral Hill and is a northeastern feeder route to the Munich Way of St. James.

City history, art and gardens in Freising

Freising’s historic old town tells the story of several periods of construction: around Marienplatz stand burghers’ and canons’ houses dating from the Gothic period through to the Baroque; the square is also home to a Marian column from 1674. Freising Cathedral on Cathedral Hill has a crypt and the Beast Column. The Freising City Museum presents around 350 selected objects and groups of objects relating to the city’s history. Together, these points of interest focus on urban development, sacred architecture and the history of the city.

Contemporary art is also part of what Freising has to offer. Schafhof is a center for contemporary art in Upper Bavaria and hosts year-round exhibitions featuring works by international and local artists. Every year, the Johannismarkt and an Advent market are held there, where selected craftspeople present high-quality one-of-a-kind pieces. On campus, the Weihenstephan Art Trail passes nearly 30 contemporary works by regionally and internationally recognized artists. It consists of two circular routes, each taking a little over an hour.

The Weihenstephan Gardens are located on the grounds of a former Benedictine monastery and are managed by Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences. The courtyard garden has a viewing terrace overlooking the Alpine panorama. The five-hectare trial garden for perennials and woody plants assesses perennials, woody plants and new rose varieties for their practical value; its existing beds and plantings are currently being renewed. Those interested in plants and gardens will find a different focus here from the routes, old town or art exhibitions.

Organizing different interests when planning a trip

The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan in Freising also offers several points of interest: it is the world’s oldest continuously operating brewery, offers brewery tours, and includes a small brewery museum as well as the attached Braustüberl Weihenstephan restaurant. Along with the market, churches, landscape, city history, art and gardens, this offers a broad range of themes, although they are not all in the same place or suited to the same travel purpose.

If you are looking for accommodation in Allershausen, you can first decide whether the banks of the Glonn, market days and churches in the municipality will be your local focus, or whether Freising and its own cultural and natural attractions will be part of your itinerary.
