Bockhorn’s Cycling Routes and Culture

The varied landscape around Bockhorn is ideal for hiking and cycling all year round. A particular highlight is the local network’s three signposted cycling loops, each about 20 kilometres long. From Erding, it is about 25 kilometres to the circular routes around Bockhorn. This means you can plan the journey there and the loop as two separate routes.

Bockhorn’s town hall square is the central starting point for the cycling network; the signs begin at the B388/Salmannskirchen junction. The three routes were developed from March 2007 onwards. During planning, every effort was made to choose paths and roads with little or no car traffic. Check current route conditions before setting off.

The cycling routes are intended for leisure cyclists, especially families with children. Their planning also aimed to include local inns, where cyclists could take a break and get to know the local pubs and beer gardens. If you plan to stop at a particular establishment, check its opening hours in advance. The parish church of the Visitation of Mary in Bockhorn is one of the cycling routes’ art-historical attractions.

Erding: City History, Museums and Routes

At the wider destination of Erding, the Erding Farmhouse Museum offers its own focus on cultural history. It comprises 15 historic buildings relocated from the Erding district and illustrates traditional rural life and farming practices in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The city’s history can also be explored on guided tours: city tours in Erding give residents and visitors insight into the history of the city and its buildings. On a tour of the town tower, visitors can explore one of Erding’s oldest buildings. After climbing 163 steps, they reach a height of 35 metres; the view extends across Erding and the surrounding area as far as Munich, and, in föhn conditions, to the Alps.

Erding offers walking routes of varying durations and distances. The hiking trails are between 5.9 and 15 kilometres long, with estimated walking times ranging from one and a half to five hours. Themed trails, meanwhile, take about an hour and lead through the old town, neighbourhoods or in the footsteps of artists. Another hiking trail leads to St. Martin’s Church in Indorf.

A farmers’ market is held on the grounds of the Erding Farmhouse Museum on Fridays from 12:00 to 16:30. Farmers from the Erding district offer regional and seasonal products and food there. As market hours may change, check the times before your visit.

The former home and studio of Franz Xaver Stahl is furnished with period furniture. The Biedermeier house dates from around 1840; the former studio has remained unchanged since Franz Xaver Stahl’s death.
