Discover Pastetten
Accommodation in Pastetten
Discover Pastetten through its local history and a distinctive carnival tradition. The Catholic branch church of St. Sylvester and the rectory, built in 1854, represent different aspects of architectural history; a carnival parade adds a very different note.
Church and local history in Pastetten
The Catholic branch church of St. Sylvester is located at Isener StraĂźe 3 in Pastetten. It has a hall nave whose core is probably medieval, a recessed choir and a west tower with a multiply tiered onion dome. The church was given a Baroque makeover in the 17th century; in 1766, Johann Baptist Lethner redesigned it. The period from its probably medieval core to its 18th-century redesign offers a concrete glimpse of different phases of construction.
Pastetten’s rectory also adds to the picture of the local architecture: it was built in 1854 and has since received the district’s façade award. The church and rectory therefore offer different points of interest if you are interested in historic buildings and local history.
A carnival parade adds another note
A carnival parade sets off from the maypole in Pastetten at 1 p.m. on Carnival Sunday. It goes once around the village and returns to the maypole; afterwards, there is a colourful carnival celebration and fun around the maypole. If you plan to attend, check the event dates in advance.
More to explore in the wider destination of Erding
The Erding Farmhouse Museum comprises 15 historic buildings relocated from the district of Erding. It presents the historic rural economy and way of life of the 19th and early 20th centuries. A farmers’ market is held on the grounds every Friday from 12:00 to 16:30. Farmers from the district of Erding offer regional and seasonal goods as well as food there. Market times may change, so check them before planning a visit. The museum and market have different focuses: one is about rural history, the other about regional and seasonal goods and food.
City tours in Erding give residents and visitors an insight into the history of the town and its buildings. A tour of the town tower takes you into one of the town’s oldest buildings. After 163 steps, the tower tour reaches a height of 35 metres; from there, the view extends across Erding and the surrounding area to Munich and, in foehn conditions, to the Alpine panorama. The tours focus on the town’s history, while the tower adds sweeping views.
The walking routes in Erding also vary in duration and distance. Hiking trails range from 5.9 to 15 kilometres, with estimated walking times of one and a half to five hours. The themed trails take about an hour and lead through the old town, local districts or in the footsteps of painters. The district of Erding also has more than 28 varied, well-signposted cycling routes. This range is useful when planning: a shorter themed walk, a longer hike and a cycling tour offer different time commitments and ways to explore the region.
Another cultural-history highlight in the wider destination of Erding is the former home and studio of Franz Xaver Stahl. It is furnished with historic furniture; the Biedermeier house dates from around 1840. The former studio has been preserved unchanged since his death. Alongside rural life, this adds a specific connection to historic living and working spaces.
When choosing accommodation, you can first decide which themes you would like to shape your stay: Pastetten’s church architecture and local history, the carnival parade, or other cultural attractions and routes in the wider destination of Erding.
