Olching combines the Amper floodplains with nature experiences, cycle paths and cultural sites. It also has a swimming lake, a large park and a folk festival held on a regular annual schedule. When planning a trip, you can choose what to focus on: getting outdoors, experiencing culture or combining the two.

Amper floodplains, floodplain forest and water

The Amper floodplains between Esting, Olching and Geiselbullach form a valuable recreational area. Floodplain forests and wet meadows shape the landscape; small paths away from the roads, numerous benches and gently sloping banks invite you to go for a walk and relax. Olching thus offers both routes through the landscape and places for a quieter break.

A fitness trail with twelve stations and exercise equipment runs for around 2.5 kilometres along the Amper in Olching’s floodplain forest. Olching Lake is a swimming lake with a water surface of around 14 hectares, visited by many swimmers in summer. Walks by the water and summer swimming are therefore different ways to experience Olching’s landscape.

The bird park is also located in the Amper floodplains. On an almost 20,000-square-metre site, it displays around 500 birds from all over the world in aviaries, pavilions, pond enclosures and open-air habitats. The Ammer-Amper cycle route runs through Olching; its route goes either via Emmering to FĂĽrstenfeldbruck or as far as Dachau. This means you can choose cycling as a distinct focus for your trip, alongside staying in one place.

Parks, activities and events

GrĂĽnanger in Schwaigfeld is a large park with mature trees, football pitches and playgrounds. It also has a toboggan slope and a stream where children are allowed to play. In summer, an event area is used for events including an open-air concert and a running event. The park thus combines play and activity areas with summer events.

If golf is part of your trip, Olching has a golf club with an 18-hole championship course and a short-game area. Both facilities were completely renovated and modernised in 2012/2013. Another type of event is the Olching Folk Festival: it starts every year on the first Friday of the Whitsun school holidays, lasts ten days and features fairground rides, showmen and culinary specialities at the central fairground. The programme may change; if attending the festival is important to your plans, check the dates for the relevant year.

Culture and history in Olching

The Kulturwerkstatt am Olchinger MĂĽhlbach, or KOM for short, is run by the town and hosts cultural events. It is also a meeting place for people of all ages and a venue for clubs and initiatives. A town announcement from 2025 states that the town of Olching organises more than 25 cultural events of its own each year; the individual programmes change.

The town’s architectural history also offers specific points of interest: the new Church of St Peter and Paul in Olching was consecrated on 22 September 1901. Geiselbullach Castle, with its park and St Nepomuk Chapel, was built by Johann Adam Geisler in 1726. The two sites offer different historical insights into Olching.

When looking for accommodation in Olching, you can first consider which themes you want your stay to focus on: the Amper floodplains and floodplain forest, summer swimming, activities, or culture and events.

More things to explore in the wider FĂĽrstenfeldbruck destination

The wider Fürstenfeldbruck destination also has its own nature and culture attractions. The Furthmühle preserves its grain-milling and sawmill machinery in its original, working condition. The Fürstenfeldbruck Museum is housed in the former monastery brewery and explores, among other things, the work of the “white monks” of the Cistercian Order. On the Fürstenfeld monastery grounds, the Abbey Church of the Assumption of Mary is considered one of the most magnificent Baroque churches in the country. The Veranstaltungsforum Fürstenfeld hosts markets, trade fairs and balls, as well as performances ranging from early music and piano summer concerts to blues, jazz, dance, shows and cabaret.
