Oberdachstetten lies in the upper Rezat valley, at an elevated, wooded location. Hiking trails, a swimming area, the parish fair and churches with various historic features give the town many different facets. The municipal area is part of the Frankenhöhe Nature Park, so depending on your plans, you can combine your stay with circular hikes, cycling routes or discoveries of local history.

The source of the Rezat and nature trails

The source of the Rezat is located within the municipal area, on the hiking trail from Oberdachstetten to Marktbergel. You can also explore Oberdachstetten on foot using the European Watershed Trail. Another destination for nature lovers is the “Weiherboden bei Anfelden” nature reserve: part of it encompasses important wetland habitats for special animal and plant species, which are preserved through extensive land management.

Circular hikes by distance and difficulty

The “Storch” circular hiking trail passes through Urphertshofen on its way back to Oberdachstetten. It is 6.7 kilometres long, moderately difficult and has an elevation gain of 160 metres. The “Rote Milan” is also moderately difficult and 7.4 kilometres long: from Oberdachstetten, it passes Waldeslust, Spinnerin, the burial mound, the source of the Rezat and the quarry; the return route goes via Waldeslust.

The “Eichblatt” is a moderately difficult circular trail, 9.5 kilometres long, passing Buchenberg, the hunting lodge and Spielberg. The also moderately difficult “Bachstelze” passes Spielberg, the B 13 south of Hohenau and Mitteldachstetten; the route is 13.8 kilometres long. The “Steinpilz” circular hiking trail starts and ends in Anfelden, passes Landsknecht and the Schwedenkreuz, and is 7.2 kilometres long and rated easy. A comparison shows that the shortest of these trails, the “Storch,” is moderately difficult, while the slightly longer “Steinpilz” is rated easy. You can therefore take both distance and difficulty into account when planning your hikes.

The hiking trail from Oberdachstetten to Westheim passes Teufelsgraben and the so-called “Spinnerin.” A grave monument in the form of a Romanesque cross commemorates the Spinnerin. This way, the trail connects the landscape with visible traces of local tradition.

Churches and history in the municipal area

St. Bartholomew’s Church in Oberdachstetten was built between 1837 and 1844 in the style of Munich Classicism. The church in Berglein has a different character: it is a fortified church, and medieval masonry remains have been preserved in its choir tower and adjoining sacristy. The church in Mitteldachstetten was first mentioned in a document in 1122. Its choir tower was built at the end of the 14th century and has arrow slits. These buildings offer distinct historical and architectural highlights within the municipality.

Swimming area, parish fair and cycling routes

For a change of pace from trails and churches, the municipality’s swimming area offers water to cool off in, a lawn for sunbathing and a volleyball court. Sanitary facilities are also available. Oberdachstetten’s parish fair takes place every year on the third Sunday in October. The traditional fair procession concludes with the “Pariser Eilrad.” If you would like to plan your visit around the event, check the dates and programme for your travel year.

Cyclists will also find several regional connections: the Biberttal Cycle Path passes through Oberdachstetten and can be connected with the BurgenstraĂźe and Zenntal cycle paths through Romantic Franconia. The Aischtal Cycle Path, which comes from Bamberg, also passes through the municipal area. These routes complement the hiking opportunities with another way to explore the region.
