Discover Ansbach: Culture, Water and Nature
Accommodation in Ansbach
Ansbach opens up a destination with a range of ways to explore: literature, church history and crafts sit alongside waterside experiences and nature trails. To help plan your visit, start by choosing a focus. Would you like to explore a themed route, visit collections, spend time by the water or join a guided hike? You can also use these interests to guide your search for accommodation in Ansbach.
Literary Trails, Museums and History
The Franconian Literature Trail in Wolframs-Eschenbach is a 2.2-kilometre, fully accessible circular route around the town fortifications. Along its 15 information boards, you will encounter authors from the Middle Ages to the present day whose works explore Franconia. Its set length and clearly defined theme make the trail a distinct way to combine exercise and literature.
The “wiegen & messen” (weighing and measuring) museum in Königshofen offers a different way to explore history. It displays more than 4,000 exhibits: historic scales and their weights, measuring rods, folding rules, and vessels used to measure grain. The collection illustrates different units of measurement and measuring instruments with concrete examples. Anyone interested in crafts and everyday history will find another area of focus at the German Brush and Broom Museum in Bechhofen a.d. Heide: its permanent exhibition features household cleaning tools as well as specialist brushes used in crafts and industry.
In Neuendettelsau, the Löhe and History Trail takes visitors back to the 19th century, when pastor Wilhelm Löhe was active. The trail’s stops are in Neuendettelsau and also lead to the churches in Reuth and Wernsbach; each stop has an information board. Along the way, you can visit the Löhe-era Museum and the Mission Eine Welt World Exhibition. In this way, learning about a historical figure is combined with several stops and exhibition venues.
The LIMESEUM in Wittelshofen focuses on another specific museum topic: it is the central museum for the Limes World Heritage Site in Ansbach district. In Feuchtwangen, meanwhile, the Romanesque cloister represents a piece of architectural and theatre history. It was built as part of the Salvator Monastery, whose structural core can be traced back to the 12th century. Since 1949, the cloister has served as a venue for the Feuchtwangen Cloister Plays, with its Romanesque arcades forming an open-air theatre space. The programme varies from year to year. If you are planning to attend a performance, check the dates in the current programme.
Nature Trails and Guided Hikes
The Frankenhöhe Nature Park covers about 1,100 km² and lies within Ansbach and Neustadt a.d. Aisch–Bad Windsheim districts, as well as the independent city of Ansbach. Its landscape is particularly well suited to recreation. The nature park provides information about hiking and cycling trails and offers ranger-led tours. This gives you different ways to experience nature: you can find out about trails or include a guided tour in your plans.
At the Hesselberg, you will find both a trail with information boards and guided hikes. The Hesselberg Trail leads to the mountain’s most scenic spots and provides information about nature, history and geology. The guided hikes cover a range of topics and can be booked individually for groups. These include specially designed tours for children’s groups, children’s birthday parties, school classes and holiday programmes. For families and groups, it is particularly worth noting that these children’s activities are explicitly part of the programme.
The landscapes also differ in scale: the grounds of Dennenlohe Castle cover about 26 hectares, while the Frankenhöhe Nature Park spans around 1,100 km². These figures give a concrete comparison of the size of the park and the much larger nature park, without suggesting that you need to plan them as equivalent kinds of destinations.
Enjoy the Water and Plan Your Stay
At the Wörnitz River Bath, you can swim in a lagoon-like, shallow-water area with filtered water from the Wörnitz. The bath is right on the Wörnitz, on the connecting road between Wassertrüdingen and Reichenbach. Facilities include a water slide, a children’s mud-play area, a playground and a volleyball court. Swimming, play and exercise each have their own space here.
The Krummweiher is another option for spending time by the water. It lies southeast of Königshofen a.d. Heide and is about a 15- to 20-minute walk from the Dorfstraße stop. A kiosk by the pond serves light meals, drinks, coffee and cake. The approximate walking time from the named stop gives you a useful reference point for planning your visit.
When choosing accommodation, start with the experiences you want to shape your stay: literary and historical themes, nature trails and guided hikes, or water and play.
