Riedering lies on Lake Simssee and offers a wide variety of themes to consider when planning your trip. The nature reserve “Südufer des Simssees” (South Shore of Lake Simssee) has existed on the southern shore since 1993. There are also churches, a viewpoint and stations devoted to nature and culture. Would you like to explore hiking and cycling trails, learn about local traditions or include a swimming spot in your plans?

Churches, traditions and art

The branch and pilgrimage church “Maria Stern und St. Johann-Baptist” is in Neukirchen. The pilgrimage church in Neukirchen on Lake Simssee is a landmark in Riedering and houses the miraculous image of “Maria Stern”. The “Churches in the Municipality” station is also located on Kirchberg in Riedering and provides information about the municipality’s five churches. The religious sites therefore range from a specific pilgrimage shrine to an overview of several churches.

Another cultural highlight is the Leonhardiritt, an annual procession that is important to Pietzing and the surrounding area. If you would like to include it in your travel plans, check the specific dates in advance. In Wolferkam, the artist Michael Moroder’s studio explains some of his artworks and the stories behind them. The orchard garden offers a very different experience: the fruit grown there is there for visitors to pick and enjoy.

The lake, trails and landscape

Well-maintained hiking and cycling trails make it possible to explore Riedering’s rare flora and fauna. This makes physical activity and nature observation a natural focus for an outing. The nature reserve on the southern shore of Lake Simssee is another specific feature of the landscape; it has existed since 1993.

For a view of the surrounding area, Kapellenberg in Söllhuben is particularly striking. It is considered Riedering’s most beautiful viewpoint, offering views of the chain of the Rosenheim mountains. The geology station in Moosen, by contrast, draws attention to how the landscape was formed: impressive erratic boulders from different eras illustrate the origins of Lake Simssee and the landscape in and around Riedering. The viewpoint and geology thus offer different perspectives—one on the visible mountain panorama, the other on the history of the landscape.

Interactive stations and activities

In Obermühl, the “Energy” station at the Wagenstaller organic mill introduces the topic of energy conversion in a playful way. It features a water play area and information panels. The “Fish in Lake Simssee” station in Ecking depicts bream, carp, pike, whitefish and zander on a rotating display. The two stations bring different topics to life: energy conversion with water play and panels at one, and fish species from Lake Simssee at the other.

There is also a specific detail to consider when planning a trip with children: the bathing area by the Seewirt in Ecking on Lake Simssee has a children’s beach. A different kind of activity is offered by the 9-hole reversible course at Patting-Hochriesblick Golf Course, which can be played in both directions. The bathing area and golf therefore suit quite different interests. When choosing your accommodation, consider whether your trip will focus on time by the water, golf, exploring nature or cultural discoveries.
