Hermsdorf offers two distinct perspectives on a stay: nature trails along the Tegeler FlieĂź and the history presented at the Reinickendorf Museum. There are also Hermsdorf Lake and the protected village church. When planning your trip, you can consider whether wetlands and waterbirds or exhibitions and local history are more appealing to you.

Boardwalks, the lake, and paths through the marshland

Along the stretch of the Tegeler FlieĂź between Hermsdorf and LĂĽbars, parts of the trail cross the stream valley and rustic marshland on boardwalks. The Eichwerdersteg is designed as a nature trail and features information boards. This section of the route therefore combines information about nature with a walk through the wetlands. Two bridges allow visitors to cross the wetland around Hermsdorf Lake with minimal impact on nature and offer the opportunity to observe the waterbirds that live there.

The lake is a destination for nature watching, not swimming: Hermsdorf Lake is not suitable for swimming. A five-kilometre circular trail leads through the marshland around the lake and past former passageways. This loop and the longer Barnimer Dörferweg offer different options for planning a route: the 34-kilometre village trail connects the historic village centres of Tegel, Hermsdorf, Lübars, Blankenfelde, Karow, and Ahrensfelde in Berlin's Barnim district. Check seasonal information about the route before setting out.

The museum and village church as gateways to history

The Reinickendorf Museum is housed in an old primary school in Alt-Hermsdorf. Its permanent exhibition explores the district's history, everyday culture in times past—including traditional crafts—and rural and urban life around 1900. It also introduces notable figures from Reinickendorf in the fields of art, literature, and history. The outdoor grounds include a reconstructed Germanic farmstead and a lapidarium. The exhibition thus brings together everyday and district history with a range of topics and people.

The Hermsdorf Village Church at AlmutstraĂźe 7 offers another historical point of interest. It is a protected historic building. Unlike the permanent exhibition, which covers a range of topics, the church is a single protected building within the local streetscape. Together, the museum and church offer different ways to explore Hermsdorf's history.

Other sides of Berlin as a travel destination

The wider destination of Berlin also includes other green spaces, each with its own focus. Tiergarten is Berlin's largest and most visited inner-city park and is ideal for walks, outdoor activities, and picnics. Tempelhofer Feld is a large public park where people picnic, sunbathe, and play sports. These Berlin parks offer further urban open spaces to explore; Hermsdorf, in contrast, has its own mix of wetlands, a village church, and a museum.
