The forested Krausnick Hills, Wehlaberg, and trails for walking, cycling, or exploring by water give Krausnick-Groß Wasserburg a varied character. From the observation tower, the panoramic view stretches across forests and the Krausnick Hills; a water route into the Unterspreewald begins in Groß Wasserburg. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on the view from above, a route on land, or setting off onto the water.

Wooded heights and views from Wehlaberg

The Krausnick Hills, also known as Bergspreewald, rise within the forested municipality of Krausnick-Groß Wasserburg. At 144.1 metres, Wehlaberg is the highest point in the Krausnick Hills. They rise about 100 metres above the adjacent Unterspreewald to the east. A 28-metre-high wooden observation tower stands on Wehlaberg. Its panoramic view over forests and hills makes it a distinctive destination for anyone who enjoys taking in the landscape from above.

Cycling and hiking routes, a place to set off onto the water, and archery

There are several options for trips on land: the Gurkenradweg and Hofjagdweg cycle routes pass through Krausnick, while the E 10 European long-distance path passes through Groß Wasserburg. Another hiking route runs from Schlepzig through Krausnick and Groß Wasserburg into Bergspreewald.

If you would like to explore by water, you can set off directly into the Unterspreewald by canoe or paddle boat from the boat-trip departure point in Groß Wasserburg.

Another activity is offered by the “Zum Bogenbiwak” archery course, set in an approximately ten-hectare area of woodland on the edge of the Spreewald community of Groß Wasserburg. The course is intended for recreational archers. At the 24 stations currently in place, visitors encounter lifelike animals made from special foam; they can also try traditional instinctive archery. The number and configuration of stations may change.

Dahme-Spreewald as a wider area to explore

The wider travel destination of Dahme-Spreewald includes the Dahme Lake District and the Spreewald within the district of Dahme-Spreewald. Attractions there range from natural landscapes to historical and cultural sites. One nature-focused option is the “Dahme-Heideseen” Nature Park: it lies in the districts of Dahme-Spreewald and Oder-Spree and encompasses more than 100 lakes.

Cyclists will also find a wider range of options in this region: more than 1,000 kilometres of well-maintained, fully signposted cycle paths connect landscapes and excursion destinations in the Spreewald and Dahme Lake District. Check the conditions on your planned route before setting out. For a cultural and historical experience, visit the Schlepzig Farm Museum, housed in a fully preserved ensemble of farm buildings dating from 1818. The faithfully furnished farmhouse depicts small-scale rural life.

Another historic point of interest in Dahme-Spreewald is the Funkerberg Museum in Königs Wusterhausen. It is located at the authentic site of the first German radio broadcast, which aired a Christmas concert on 22 December 1920.
