Prieros: Between Nature and History
Accommodation in Prieros
Prieros is situated on an island amid the wildlife-rich lakes and forests of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. Alongside this natural setting, the local history museum, village church and Old School tell the story of the town and everyday life in the past. During your stay, you can choose how much to focus on culture, nature watching and trails: in Prieros, exhibitions and historic buildings are just as much in view as habitats, circular trails and waterways.
Discover Local History
The local history museum in Prieros is housed in a half-timbered building around 280 years old and features a permanent exhibition on rural life and local history. Archaeological finds and objects from regional everyday culture complement displays of traditional work carried out by farmers, fishermen, blacksmiths, millers and other tradespeople. The focus is not just on individual occupations, but also on the many ways life and work shaped the region.
Highlights at the local history museum include an original “black kitchen” with a massive chimney hood, as well as historic kitchen utensils and cooking equipment. Everyday objects, clothing, country furniture, sewing machines and washing items are also on display. An iron treasure chest from the 17th century stands out for its 16-point locking mechanism. Two original paintings are by Max Lingner, who had a summer residence in Prieros.
The village church also brings together different historical periods: the Neo-Romanesque brick building dates from 1875. The church is listed in the Brandenburg State Register of Historic Monuments, as of January 1, 2026. Its retable dates to around 1675 and did not originally belong to the altar. The Old School in Prieros was built in 1890 as a school and sexton’s house.
Nature Park, Exhibitions and Trails
The nature park information point in Prieros offers tips for excursions and nature watching in the nature park region. Its exhibitions on nature, art and culture change regularly. In the Prieros organic garden, you can discover plant communities and habitats of the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park; the nature trail on the school grounds teaches visitors about native animal and plant species and invites them to explore independently.
For a circular route with a specified length, the two-kilometre “Prieros – From the Information Point to the Organic Garden” trail offers a useful guide. The Prieros and Huschtesee circular hiking trail also forms a loop, with the named destination of Huschtesee. When planning, you can consider whether a stated trail length or the lake as a destination matters more to you.
Another option is the Prieroser Heide circular trail, which runs partly along the shore of Tiefensee. The long-distance Dahme Cycle Route, which passes through Prieros, adds a cycling option. The trails therefore offer different highlights: a route with a specified length, a lake as a destination, a stretch along the shore or a long-distance cycle route.
Prieros by Water
Waterways are also an important part of getting around the area. Prieros can be reached by water from Berlin, Storkow, Teupitz or Märkisch Buchholz. Prieros Lock is located at kilometre 26.9 of the Dahme Waterway. For continuing towards the Teupitz waters, the sixth stage of the “Märkische Umfahrt” is a useful reference point: at the destination in Prieros, you can also continue your journey to the Schmölde.
Whether you prefer to focus on local history and exhibitions, nature watching, hiking and cycling, or a trip on the water, these interests can give you a starting point for finding accommodation in Prieros.
