Müllrose lies between Lake Katharinensee and the Small and Large Müllroser Lakes. Waterways, hiking trails and historic buildings give the town a variety of facets. When comparing accommodation, you can first consider whether your trip will focus mainly on hiking, water activities or cultural history.

Lakes, Waterways and Hiking Trails

The Schlaube flows through the Large Müllroser Lake and the Small Müllroser Lake before joining the Oder-Spree Canal at Müllrose. The lido is on the west shore: it caters to water sports and has a sandy beach. It operates seasonally; check visiting options before your trip.

Three routes can be distinguished for walks and hikes by their length and starting points. The Three Lakes Trail is around 6 kilometres long, starts and ends at the market square, and runs alongside the Large Müllroser Lake, the Small Müllroser Lake and Lake Katharinensee. The circular trail around the Large Müllroser Lake is 9 kilometres long and starts at Müllrose Market. Considerably longer is the Schlaubetal Hiking Trail: this quality hiking trail, certified by the German Hiking Association, runs for 25 kilometres from Müllrose to Lake Wirchensee through the Schlaubetal.

Paddling, Boating and Fishing

An approximately one-and-a-half-hour paddling trip for the whole family runs from the Small Müllroser Lake via the Oder-Spree Canal to Lake Katharinensee and through the Katharinengraben. Bootsvermietung Schlaubetal in Müllrose offers guided paddling trips with transport. At Marina Schlaubetal, you can rent kayaks, Canadian canoes, rowboats, motorboats that do not require a licence, cabin boats and dragon boats. Tours and rental offers may change; check with the respective provider in advance.

Fishing is another option on the water: the resort town of Müllrose offers good conditions for it, with three fish-rich lakes and the Oder-Spree Canal. Paddling and boating thus complement fishing as other ways to enjoy the water.

Local History and Culture

The Evangelical Church in Müllrose was first built in 1275 in the style of a hall church. The Ackerbürgerhaus is the oldest house in the town: it dates from 1689 and is now a listed building. The historic fire station, with its wooden hose-drying tower, offers a different perspective on the town’s architectural history; it was built in 1925.

More recent landmarks also feature in the townscape: the Gildebaum is 17.5 metres tall, was inaugurated in September 2017 and is considered the largest of its kind in Brandenburg. The Bürgerhaus was built in 1696, listed in the 1990s and subsequently extensively restored. The Schützenhaus was comprehensively converted in 2003 and has since served residents and associations as a cultural venue, as well as hosting town events.

The Haus des Gastes houses the Schlaubetal information centre and the local history museum. The museum’s permanent exhibitions feature numerous artefacts relating to the history of the Three Lakes town of Müllrose and document that history across the centuries. The local history museum is currently closed due to construction work. Müllrose is also home to the oldest still-operating mill in the Schlaubetal, now the Oderland Mühlenwerke, which has a mill shop. Check in advance whether the mill shop is open to visitors.

Concerts, Traditions and Getting There

The Müllrose Lake Concerts are a concert series held along the lakeside promenade. The Musikverein Müllrose e.V. traditionally opens the season on Whit Monday. The Müllrose Christmas Magic also has a regular place in the annual calendar: it traditionally takes place on the first weekend of Advent and includes food and drink stalls, music on stage and carriage rides through Müllrose. Programmes may vary from year to year.

The RB36, operated by Niederbarnimer Eisenbahngesellschaft, runs through Müllrose between Frankfurt (Oder) and Königs Wusterhausen. If you are planning to travel by train, check the current route before your trip.

More Perspectives in the Wider Oder-Spree Destination

The wider Oder-Spree destination offers other distinct themes to consider when planning a trip. Lake Scharmützelsee covers around 1,200 hectares and is about 30 metres deep; its clear water has visibility of up to four metres and draws anglers, divers, sailors and swimmers to the region. The five-hectare Neuzelle Baroque Garden was restored according to original plans from the 1758 abbey atlas. Its features include Baroque avenues, water features and a terraced layout.
