The municipality of Tauche brings together weather research, Leichhardt history and water tours. In Lindenberg, an interactive weather museum and the Meteorological Observatory focus on weather observation; Trebatsch combines a museum, a circular walking trail and a long bridge history. The Spree offers opportunities for water tours. If you are looking for accommodation in Tauche, these different attractions can help determine which experiences you want to shape your stay.

Weather research and architectural history in Lindenberg

The weather museum in Lindenberg features a family-friendly, interactive exhibition on weather observation, how weather forms, weather reports and climate change. The exhibition takes you from observing and explaining the weather to a broader question about climate. On a guided tour arranged by the weather museum, you can watch a real radiosonde ascent at the neighboring observatory of the German Weather Service. Arrange the tour with the museum in advance.

The Meteorological Observatory in Lindenberg was formally inaugurated on October 16, 1905. Another historic landmark is the listed Schnitterkaserne, built in 1810. The two buildings represent different aspects of local history: weather observation and architectural history.

Trebatsch: Leichhardt Museum and circular walking trail

Trebatsch was first mentioned in official records in 1324. The Ludwig Leichhardt Museum there opened in 1988 to mark the 175th birthday of Australian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt. The museum is open only by prior arrangement by phone or email, and during events. The museum offers guided tours and a monthly events program. If you are planning a visit, arrange it with the museum in advance.

The revitalized Leichhardt circular walking trail, about 11 km long, is connected with the museum. Its approximate length gives you a guide for planning your route. Check the current trail route before setting out. This will help you consider a museum visit and a hike as different options for your stay.

Water touring on the Spree

The municipality of Tauche offers opportunities for water tours on the Spree. The water-tourist rest area in Trebatsch has a natural landing spot and space for about 10 to 15 tents. There is no parking there. The tent capacity is approximate; the lack of parking is a concrete point to bear in mind when planning.

Bridge history between Trebatsch and Sabrodt

The history of the bridge between Trebatsch and Sabrodt can be traced through several construction phases. Until 1928, a wooden drawbridge stood there; it was replaced by an 81 m-long reinforced-concrete bridge with a roadway width of 5.20 m. This bridge was blown up in 1945 and rebuilt in 1956. It was completely reconstructed in 1992–93. The sequence of replacement, destruction, rebuilding and reconstruction tells a different part of local history from the early dates associated with the observatory and the Schnitterkaserne.
