Passow – Village Church, Monuments and Christmas Market
Accommodation in Passow
Passow offers several ways to explore local history and culture: the village church with its late Gothic carved altar, a number of different monuments and the history of Passow Castle. The Christmas market adds a seasonal touch. You can plan your trip around historical themes or a specific event.
Village church, railway station and other monuments
Passow’s monuments include the church at Schwedter Chaussee 47, the railway station at Am Bahnhof 1, a central-corridor house at Schwedter Chaussee 19 and a residential and livestock building at Wendemarker Lindenallee 8. The station building is a listed monument. These designations give an impression of the range: Passow’s monuments include not only the church and railway transport, but also various residential and agricultural buildings.
The village church has a late Gothic carved altar, which was fully restored from 1991 to 2019. The organ also offers a clearly defined glimpse into music history: in its present form, it is the work of Friedrich Wilhelm Kaltschmidt of Stettin, while its specification is based on that of organ builder Joachim Wagner. Kaltschmidt and Wagner are thus associated with two different aspects of the organ.
Another historical thread leads to Passow Castle. It was one of the fortifications along the Welse line, which formed the border between Brandenburg and Pomerania here. Together with the village church and the different types of monuments, this history offers several perspectives on Passow, from buildings to the former border line.
The Christmas market as a seasonal reason to visit
The Passow Christmas market was held for the 27th time in 2024 and the 28th time in 2025. Around 20 traders, businesses and associations took part in the 2025 edition; the level of participation may vary from one edition to the next. Market offerings include food cooked in pots and pans, grilled dishes and a traditional coffee room in a festively decorated, heated tent. These offerings may also vary from year to year.
If you are planning to visit Passow specifically for the market, check the dates for the relevant edition before your trip. This lets you distinguish a time-specific event from the town’s enduring cultural and historical attractions, without conflating the two reasons for visiting.
Plan your train journey
Passow railway station is in the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB) area and is served by regional rail services (SPNV). If you are planning to travel by train, check the latest connections and journey times before departure. This keeps your travel plans tied to the relevant timetable, while the church, monuments and history of the castle offer other themes to explore during your stay.
Schwedt/Oder: nature and urban history
Around 5,500 hectares of Lower Oder Valley National Park lie within the city limits of Schwedt/Oder, the wider travel destination. The park protects a floodplain landscape with a rich variety of animal and plant life, wetland habitats, meadows, floodplain forests, hillside forests along the river floodplain and dry grasslands. Its visitor offerings include nature experiences, environmentally friendly recreation close to nature and nature education. Guided canoe trips through the floodplains depart from Schwedt/Oder; check current providers in advance. The Oder–Neisse Cycle Route also passes through Schwedt/Oder.
The Schwedt/Oder City Museum offers a distinct cultural and historical focus there: on the ground floor, it presents parts of its extensive collection on the city’s and region’s history. One focus is the city’s “Golden Age”, when a junior branch of the Hohenzollerns resided in Schwedt Palace. Special exhibitions cover topics including art and theatre, religion and migration, crafts and the military, as well as industry and architecture. Lectures, activity days, museum education projects and storytelling cafés complement the exhibitions; the programme may vary.
