Carmzow-Wallmow is a destination for days when lakes, rural paths and architectural history are equally appealing. Brökersee and Ganznowsee give the area a tangible connection to nature; the village church in Carmzow and Wallmow’s first documented mention offer a glimpse into its history. Two routes of different lengths let you explore the area by bike. When planning, it is worth first deciding which of these highlights you want to shape your stay.

Lakes and Ice Age Landscape

The “Kleinseen bei Carmzow” FFH site covers around 76 hectares. Its lakes were formed by blocks of dead ice during the Weichselian glaciation, in the young moraine landscape in northeastern Brandenburg. The lakes reveal a landscape history that extends far beyond their present-day shorelines.

Brökersee covers 17 hectares and lies northwest of Carmzow. Extensive stands of reeds and bulrushes shape much of its shoreline. The lake also has several jetties and an official swimming area on its southern shore. If you are planning a swim, check local access options beforehand. Ganznowsee lies east of Carmzow and covers 15 hectares. The lakes are therefore similar in size but lie on different sides of Carmzow—a useful point of reference if you would like to explore them as nature destinations in their own right.

Village History and Church Architecture

Wallmow was first mentioned in a document dated January 13, 1283. Carmzow’s village church is an early Gothic fieldstone building dating from around 1250. Inside is a Baroque pulpit altar from 1724. The church thus brings together early architectural history and much later furnishings. The dates provide different historical reference points: the document concerns Wallmow’s first mention, while the construction date and altar belong to the history of Carmzow’s church.

Cycling Routes of Different Lengths

The 16-kilometer Spinnradweg runs through Wallmow’s rural landscape, following shady avenues lined with hedges. If you are looking for a clearly defined route, its length can help you plan. The Gutsherrenradtour offers a longer option: it is approximately 99 kilometers long and passes through Wallmow and Carmzow. It is also connected to regional and long-distance cycling routes.

Comparing the lengths highlights two different scales for planning: the Spinnradweg is 16 kilometers, while the Gutsherrenradtour is around 99 kilometers. Route details may change, so check the current route before setting out on a cycling trip.

The Uckermark as a Wider Region

In the Uckermark, the wider destination, the view opens onto a larger natural and cycling region. The Uckermark has more than 500 lakes and over 1,600 kilometers of cycling routes. Uckermärkische Seen Nature Park lies in the Uckermark’s water-rich, gently rolling landscape and includes clear-water lakes, kettle holes and bogs. This regional perspective complements the specific lakes and cycling routes around Carmzow-Wallmow with other landscape features without suggesting that they are individual features of the nature park.

When looking for accommodation, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: would you like to explore the lakes, village history or cycling routes? If cycling is your main interest, you can factor the different tour lengths into your plans; if you want to combine nature and culture, the lakes and church offer different points of interest. When comparing specific options, check their locations against the places you plan to visit.
