Münster (Hessen) can be explored through a variety of themes: a nature trail on the grounds of the former Muna sits alongside cultural offerings in the historic town hall and important memorial sites. This lets you tailor the balance of nature and history to your interests, rather than focusing your stay on a single attraction.

Nature and outdoor activities around Münster

The Wisentwald nature trail is located on the grounds of the former Munitionsanstalt Muna in Münster-Breitefeld. Designed as a leisure and educational attraction for all ages, it focuses on environmental and nature conservation. The trail is about 1.5 kilometres long and has five interactive stations for movement, discovery and reflection. It may only be explored on foot or by bicycle.

Wisentwald and the MUNATUR exhibition can be explored independently during opening hours. Check the municipal Muna website in advance for current opening hours. The Muna grounds also feature a viewing platform where bison and Przewalski’s horses can be observed. Which animals appear may vary.

There are also ways to explore Münster beyond Wisentwald: circular walking trails pass through Münster and its two districts. The Wassererlebnisband Gersprenz themed cycling route passes through the area; information boards with QR codes share interesting facts about nature, the region and its people. If you plan to use the cycle route, check the latest information about its course.

Münster Bürgerpark has a playground and a mini-golf course. These complement the nature and cultural experiences with play and another opportunity to get active. If you want to make your visit dependent on both being available, check their current operating status in advance.

Culture, local history and remembrance

The ARThaus, the Old Town Hall in Münster-Altheim, is a venue for theatre, exhibitions, concerts, readings and other cultural events. The events on offer and visiting times depend on the programme. Checking the latest event information will help you choose a suitable date.

The Museum an der Gersprenz is located in the historic Langsmühle on the Gersprenz. A museum was established there in 2005/2006 and is run by the Heimat- und Geschichtsverein e.V. on behalf of the municipality. Together with the cultural programme at the ARThaus, the museum offers another way to discover Münster’s history and culture.

The Stolpersteine, or “stumbling stones,” are also part of the local memorial landscape. Since 7 April 2025, a total of 21 Stolpersteine at eight locations in Münster and Altheim have commemorated Jewish residents who were expelled, persecuted and murdered during the Nazi era. The Stolpersteine were created by artist and sculptor Gunter Demnig.
