Glashütten: Limes History, Art and Nature Trails
Accommodation in Glashütten
Glashütten combines Limes history with art and nature trails. In the municipality, you can discover archaeological traces and a variety of trails; the wider Hochtaunus destination offers further independent attractions. This lets you plan your stay around whether you want to focus on local discoveries or a broader range of excursions.
Limes Traces in the Municipality
At the edge of Glashütten, the information portal marks the gateway to the King’s Stage of the certified Limes Adventure Trail, which runs through the municipality. The remains of Maisel Fort are also within the municipality. The small fort was used to monitor passages through the Limes. Another archaeological highlight is the kiln site “An der Emsbachschlucht”: it has been preserved because of its good condition and is unique of its kind nationwide.
A view from above adds to these historical impressions: the LIMES Tower on Kröfteler Weg was inaugurated on August 30, 2025. From its 12-meter-high viewing platform, hikers and walkers can gaze into the distance. The various Limes sites each offer a different perspective: the information portal provides access to the King’s Stage, the remains of the fort point to the monitoring of the passages, and the tower offers a viewpoint.
Art and Nature Trails
The waldGLASweg is an art trail in the Glashütten forest. Seven glass installations are spread over a distance of 1.5 kilometers. The nature trail has a different focus: this circular route, about 3.3 kilometers long, runs between Glashütten and Schloßborn. Information boards cover local flora and fauna; other stations offer sensory activities, fitness exercises and yoga. The two trails therefore differ in both length and focus: one highlights art and glass, while the other features nature topics and activity stations.
The Glashütten-Schloßborn outdoor swimming pool is also part of what the municipality has to offer. It has a heated main pool with swimming and non-swimming areas, as well as a separate children’s paddling pool. Alongside trails and historical attractions, the selection therefore includes swimming facilities, with the pool areas offering different options for swimming and paddling.
Glashütten in the Hochtaunus
In the wider Hochtaunus destination, the Heilklima-Park covers around 20 square kilometers and extends across five towns and municipalities: Schmitten im Taunus, Glashütten, Königstein im Taunus, Kronberg im Taunus and Oberursel (Taunus). The park has 12 portals and nearly 30 trails. The Hochtaunus Limes Adventure Trail also runs through the area: it follows the route of the Limes hiking trail or the Limes cycling trail and extends for more than 30 kilometers from Glashütten to Ober-Mörlen. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Another family-friendly attraction in the wider destination is the family route at the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum. The museum is located in Neu-Anspach in the Hochtaunuskreis district. The route shows children and adults together how people used to live, dwell and work. Bus route 63 connects Wehrheim or Neu-Anspach/Anspach station with the Neu-Anspach/Anspach Hessenpark stop. It is worth checking current connections before travelling.
Choose accommodation to suit your travel plans
If local trails, art installations and Limes sites are to be the focus of your stay, Glashütten is an obvious starting point when looking for accommodation. If you would also like to include the family route at Hessenpark, take its location in Neu-Anspach into account when planning.
