Discover Steinbach (Taunus): Markets, festivals and trails
Accommodation in Steinbach
There are many ways to get to know Steinbach (Taunus): its local history, recurring markets and festivals, and trails through the forest. The historic sites and events offer different ways to explore the town. When looking for accommodation, it helps to first consider whether you want to plan your stay around a festival date or focus more on local history and trails.
Local history in the old town center
The historic Protestant St. George’s Church is in the old town center. The “Bütt,” a fountain and landmark of Steinbach, stands on Freier Platz. The two places offer different points of interest: the church is a historic building, while the Bütt is a named fountain in a public space in the town. Steinbach’s Kerb festival also has historical roots: it commemorates the dedication of St. George’s Chapel and takes place on the second weekend in October.
Weekly markets and festivals throughout the year
The weekly markets are held on two different days and squares: on Tuesdays, the market takes place on Freier Platz, and on Saturdays, on St.-Avertin-Platz. Both markets are scheduled every week. If you want to plan a visit to a market, you can choose between a weekday and a Saturday.
The festivals also take place at different times of the year. Steinbach’s town festival is held every year over a weekend in June on Bahnstraße. The Christmas market follows the Kerb festival on the second weekend in October; it was established in 1981 and takes place on the second weekend of Advent. If a festival influences your travel dates, this seasonal comparison can help with planning; it does not specify dates for any particular year.
Traditions and trails around Steinbach
At the bakehouse, you can bake and enjoy bread yourself, following an old custom. This is a different way to experience local life than visiting a market or festival: here, a traditional activity takes center stage. The Bat Trail in Steinbach Forest was established in September 2026. The trail, around two kilometers long, initially had four stations on topics such as forests, habitats and bats.
The Äppelwoibrückchen is a rest stop with small areas to pause and relax. It lies at an intersection of the Regionalpark circular route and a direct trail connecting Frankfurt-Praunheim with Steinbach in the Taunus. This brings together a trail junction and a place to stop and relax. The trails described are quite different: the Bat Trail is a short educational trail with stations, while the Äppelwoibrückchen is located where two routes meet.
More to explore in the wider Hochtaunus travel region
In the wider Hochtaunus travel region, the town lists the Taunus and the nearby Altkönig and Feldberg as places to enjoy outdoor recreation. Another destination in this travel region is the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum in Neu-Anspach, in the Hochtaunuskreis district. Its family trail shows children and adults together how people used to live, reside and work. The Limes Experience Trail in the Hochtaunus follows the route of the Limes hiking trail or the Limes cycling trail and runs for more than 30 kilometers from Glashütten to Ober-Mörlen. Check route conditions before setting out.
Kronberg Castle offers a different focus. It stands on a rocky promontory on the southern slope of the Taunus and was probably built in the 12th century as an imperial castle on Hohenstaufen crown lands. Since 2008, the museum in the north wing of the Middle Castle has featured a permanent exhibition on the castle’s history. The museum and interior rooms can only be visited as part of a guided tour; check tour dates before your visit. The nearly 44-meter-high free-standing tower offers wide-ranging views across the surrounding area and, on a clear day, as far as the Spessart and Odenwald.
