The History of Technology at the Alte Schule

The Yesterchips Home Computer and Video Game Console Museum is located in the listed “Alte Schule” building at Erbacher Straße 1. This privately run, amateur-operated museum is dedicated to home computers and video game consoles. In the wider travel destination of Lützelbach, the collection includes devices dating from the 1970s onwards; most exhibits are switched on and intended for visitors to use. Hiking and Roman History at Windlücke

In Haingrund, Windlücke invites you to hike the HG1 circular trail and enjoy far-reaching views. Sections of the Roman Limes are visible on a hill in the direction of Vielbrunn. Those who want to spend time outdoors while also exploring Roman history will find different points of interest here: the hiking trail at Windlücke and the visible remains of the Limes in the landscape.

The “Limes Circular Route through Dense Forests” runs from the small castle and the reconstruction of the Limes along the rampart through dense forests south to the Windlücke small fort. The best way to explore the ridge is by mountain bike cross-country or on foot. Check current trail conditions before setting out on this route. Another option is the Geo-Nature Park’s guided “Archaeology on the Odenwald Limes” hike, which goes from the “Lützelbacher Schlösschen” numerus fort past two tower sites to the Windlücke small fort. Art in the Heilig-Kreuz Church

The Heilig-Kreuz Church contains a Stations of the Cross with seven stations. The visual artist and deacon Claus Kilian, who was from Braunschweig and lived from 1928 to 2022, created it in 1988; the stations were cast in bronze. A copy of the Hallgarten Madonna is also mounted on a sandstone console on the church wall. Bronze and sandstone each lend the artistic furnishings a distinctive form. Visitors interested in art will find a designed series of images and a copy of the Madonna as the main points of interest here.

Other Limes Sites in the Wider Travel Destination of Lützelbach

The wider travel destination of Lützelbach also contains significant traces of the Odenwald Limes. The Lützelbach district includes eight tower sites, watchtowers 10/5 to 10/12, as well as the Windlücke small fort. Within the municipality, the Windlücke small fort, the Lützelbach numerus fort and a total of eight tower sites can be reached via the Limes hiking trail, except for those located in open fields. Near the Lützelbach numerus fort, a Limes palisade almost 40 metres long has been faithfully reconstructed directly beside a hiking trail that passes by. In Lützelbach, a short archaeological circular trail at watchtower 10/8 also leads to the excavations of the Reich Limes Commission, which are particularly visible there.

The wider travel destination of Lützelbach also has a distinctive chapter of church history: Rimhorn is home to the oldest of the seven churches in the municipality. It was originally a Romanesque hall church, believed to date from the 10th century. Around the year 1000, a chancel was added to the nave, and a sacristy followed in 1523.
