Trail and bathing area in Heringhausen

Diemelsee can be explored through two specific themes: the route of the Diemelsteig trail and the bathing area in Heringhausen. The Diemelsteig runs directly through Heringhausen and around Lake Diemelsee. The Seebrücke/Hohes Rad lido is also in Heringhausen; it is the local bathing area. This means a trail-related attraction and a bathing area in the same village offer two distinct options.

The lido offers free use of a large water slide. Check local notices for temporary restrictions before your visit. This lets you tailor your search to the activities you have planned without limiting your stay to just one focus.

More to discover in Waldeck-Frankenberg

Other places in Waldeck-Frankenberg offer their own nature, culture and activity themes. The ancient beech forests of Kellerwald-Edersee National Park have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. Another highlight for anyone interested in longer stretches is the 66-kilometre Urwaldsteig Edersee trail. It can be hiked in eight stages or as part of a three-day ranger hike, with around 22 kilometres per stage. The two formats therefore differ both in the number of stages and in the stated duration of the ranger hike.

Geological and urban history

The GeoFoyer Kalkturm Korbach presents the landscape and wildlife around Korbach as they were 250 million years ago. An exhibition also explores the extraction and processing of limestone and its industrial use in the quarry for more than 100 years. Here, a look back at the distant geological past sits alongside the history of a raw material.

The Historic Town Hall of Frankenberg (Eder) is a half-timbered town hall dating from 1509. Its ten towers represent the town’s ten guilds. The farmers’ market takes place every Saturday in the town hall’s Rathausschirn; check the latest dates before your trip. During a regional stay, you can therefore choose between exploring the building and its guild history or visiting the recurring market day.

Exhibitions and active facilities

The Kellerwald National Park Centre in Vöhl-Herzhausen on Lake Edersee offers an interactive exhibition with exhibits about the wilderness of the Kellerwald, as well as a 4D sensory film about the wilderness and its wildlife. The exhibition and film present the subject in two different formats.

The multi-generational park in Allendorf (Eder) has 28 stations across an area of around 3,000 square metres for activities and communication between generations. The “Im Ried” dirt-bike facility is also located in the same park; it opened in October 2017. It offers trails of varying difficulty and a pump track. This brings together stations designed for communal activities and a dedicated biking facility as distinct activity options.
