Two historical landmarks tell of different periods in the town’s history. The fire of 1695 destroyed most of the village, including the rectory and widows’ house. The oldest surviving fabric of St. Mary’s Church dates from the 14th century.
The former Kali Railway is also part of the region’s history. Its former route connects Hänigsen, Wathlingen, Nienhagen and Ehlershausen. You can experience part of the route on a motorised or pedal-powered rail trolley. Before travelling, check whether a ride is available on your preferred date.
