In Petersfeld, the “Reservistenfort” adventure playground adds to the attractions. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to explore the landscape along a trail, enjoy the views and information by the water, or focus on swimming and play facilities.
Natural landscape around the Thülsfeld Reservoir
The Thülsfeld Reservoir Nature Reserve is characterised by its expanse of water dotted with islands, natural and partially marshy shorelines, heathland and pine forests. The landscape also includes inland dunes that are partly wooded. The area is intended to protect heathland habitats, moors, inland dunes and the aquatic habitats of the reservoir, the Soeste and its tributaries. The Thülsfeld Reservoir is also designated as a nature reserve and a European protected area.
Circular trail and information boardwalk: two ways to explore
The Thülsfeld Reservoir adventure trail is a ten-kilometre circular route. It leads through moorland and heathland, over dunes and past winding bays. Fourteen interactive stations enhance the route. This circular trail combines a walk through varied landscapes with further discoveries along the way.
The information boardwalk is in the south of the reservoir, between the large and small beaches, and offers views across the reservoir lake. Four information panels cover the reservoir’s history, functions and uses, as well as distinctive features of the natural landscape around the Thülsfeld Reservoir. The boardwalk therefore offers a different focus from the circular trail: here, views and information go hand in hand, while the route puts the landscapes along the trail centre stage.
Swimming and play facilities
The southern bathing area at the Thülsfeld Reservoir near Garrel-Petersfeld has approximately 3,200 m² of bathing area. It offers a different focus from planning a route on the circular trail or exploring the information at the boardwalk: here, swimming in the reservoir is the main attraction.
The “Reservistenfort” adventure playground in Petersfeld complements the natural scenery and water with a dedicated space for active play. Facilities include a climbing pyramid, bridges, climbing frames, a carousel, an adventure swing and a double zip line. If you would rather make play equipment the focus of your day than add another nature trail, you can include the playground as a separate activity.
