Molbergen brings together raised bogs, forests and heathland, water, and historic sites in a diverse landscape and cultural profile. This raises a practical question as you plan your trip: would you mainly like to explore nature trails, spend time by the water, or discover different historical periods?

Moorland landscape and trails in Dwergter Sand

The Dausenmoorpad is located in the Molberger Dose nature reserve, which covers more than 600 hectares, and showcases raised bog landscape in its natural setting. The three-kilometre circular trail features 15 interactive and sensory stations. They explore the development of rare bogs and their ecological importance—a focus on natural history that shapes the trail as much as the moorland landscape itself.

The Dwergter Sand area, a woodland and heathland landscape covering around 2,000 hectares, also extends across the Molbergen area. The Dwergter Sand forest and adventure trail is an approximately 3.5-kilometre circular route with 17 information boards and interactive stations. The Dausenmoorpad and the Dwergter Sand trail differ in length and content: the former is slightly shorter at three kilometres and focuses on the development of moors, while the latter combines information boards with interactive stations over around 3.5 kilometres.

Bathing lake and BĂĽrgerpark

Dwergte bathing lake is a natural lake with a water surface of 6,000 square metres. It is surrounded by a 4,000-square-metre beach area. Toilets and a beach café are on site; briefly check the current availability of these facilities before your visit.

Another focus for an outing is BĂĽrgerpark Molbergen. The family and leisure park offers quiet areas as well as activity zones for play, sport, and socialising. At the bathing lake, the water and beach area take centre stage, while BĂĽrgerpark brings together a variety of activity and relaxation areas. Both places complement the nature trails with their own ways to enjoy a day outdoors.

Church, megalithic tomb, and village school

St. John the Baptist Church in Molbergen houses a Gothic sandstone altarpiece. It was created around 1460 in a Westphalian workshop. Much of the church’s furnishings date from the Baroque period. The altarpiece thus brings together a work from the 15th century with another defining period in the church’s furnishings.

A much older landmark is the Teufelssteine in Molbergen-Bischofsbrück. The megalithic tomb is attributed to the Neolithic Funnel Beaker culture and dated to between around 3400 and 2800 BC. The Alte Dorfschule, a single-storey brick building dating from 1907, stands in Ermke. Its bell tower is regarded as a sign of the connection between school and church. The church, megalithic tomb, and school building each offer a distinct perspective on the region’s history.
