Half-timbered chapel and the history of the Rundling settlement

The Protestant chapel in Göhrde-Bredenbock is first mentioned in the Lüneburg Pfründenregister (benefice register) in 1534. In 1732, it was rebuilt on the same site as a simple, towerless half-timbered building with brick infill. Historic votive panels, some dating from 1732, and a freestanding wooden bell tower are among its distinctive features. The chapel also has a positive organ with three stops. Its construction and furnishings provide tangible points of connection to local history that go beyond its early recorded mention.

The half-timbered chapel in Bredenbock is also a stop on a tour through the Göhrde. As route details may change, check them before setting out. Bredenbock is also classified as a historic Rundling settlement, Category 4. The historic Rundling can no longer be recognized as such. The classification and the fact that its form is no longer discernible describe two different aspects of the settlement’s history: its historical classification remains interesting, even though the former Rundling layout can no longer be made out today.
