Evensen brings the Leine landscape and local history to life. On the southeastern edge of the village, the Evenser Moor nature reserve borders directly on Evensen. Covering around 47 hectares, the area is an old meander of the Leine with peat deposits close to the surface. Here, a distinctive stretch of river landscape meets the history of a small village.

Moorland and Cycling Route

Visitors to the Evenser Moor nature reserve should stay on the paths; dogs must be kept on a lead. Evensen can also be included in a regional cycling tour: a cycling route of around 35 km passes through the village and other villages in the northern part of Neustadt am RĂĽbenberge. The total distance is a useful guide for planning your day. Check the route details before setting off.

Manor Estate and Local History

Evensen Manor is a historic estate with active organic farming. The café sells venison, camelina, linseed and hemp oils, seeds, and wild herbs directly from the farm. If these products suit your travel interests, you can include the farm shop in your plans; check what is currently available before visiting.

Another historic landmark is the Scheibenkreuzstein, or disc-cross stone. It may be Evensen’s oldest monument. According to tradition, it is said to commemorate the fatal outcome of a quarrel between brothers in the 17th or 18th century.

Choose Accommodation to Suit Your Travel Interests

Tailor your search to the themes that will shape your trip. Bus route 850 connects the Neustadt am RĂĽbenberge central bus station (ZOB) with Evensen; check the timetable before travelling.

Culture in the Wider Destination of Neustadt am RĂĽbenberge

In the wider destination of Neustadt am RĂĽbenberge, Landestrost Castle offers another perspective on regional history: this imposing Renaissance building was constructed from 1573 to 1584. Its rooms regularly host exhibitions and events such as theatre performances, concerts and readings.

The Church of Our Lady in Neustadt am RĂĽbenberge was first mentioned in a document in 1247. Initially built as a three-aisled Romanesque basilica, it was remodelled in the Gothic style in 1502. From 1 April to 31 October, the church is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; check seasonal opening hours before your visit.

At the Helstorf Blacksmith Museum, blacksmiths demonstrate their craft on the third Sunday of each month from April to October, and visitors can also try it themselves. Visits are also possible by appointment. If you are planning a visit, confirm the date or arrangement in advance. These cultural attractions broaden the picture of the wider destination without replacing Evensen’s distinctive nature and history.
