Discover Hademstorf on the Aller and Leine
Accommodation in Hademstorf
Hademstorf lies at the confluence of the Aller and Leine, in the heart of the Aller-Leine Valley. Bansee, the Aller Cycle Route and the former horse post station reveal different sides of the town: protected landscapes, cycling and a history dating back to 1649.
Bansee Nature Reserve
Bansee Nature Reserve lies within the Hademstorf district and covers approximately 18 hectares. Its landscape includes a natural-looking still body of water surrounded by dunes and woodland, a transition bog and a pine bog on the edge. The tranquil character of the water contrasts with Hademstorf’s location at the confluence of the Aller and Leine.
Clear restrictions apply in the area: as a rule, you may not enter, drive through or otherwise visit areas outside the paths. Swimming and boating are also prohibited. So do not plan to use Bansee as a swimming or boating spot.
Cycle Route and Canoe Tour
The Aller Cycle Route passes through Hademstorf and follows the Aller through meadows, pastures and pine forests. Another separate option is the three-hour canoe tour on offer from Hademstorf to Hodenhagen. Before booking, check availability with the provider and review the route conditions. The cycle route and canoe tour offer different reference points for planning your day and choosing an outing: on the cycle route, the course along the Aller and the landscape shape the experience; the canoe tour takes three hours and runs from Hademstorf to Hodenhagen.
Posthof and Lock
The historic Posthof was established in 1649 as a horse-changing station. The horse-post routes from Hanover to Harburg and Bremen converged here. The former post station building still stands today, is privately used and is the only officially recognised historic monument in Hademstorf. The site thus connects a specific historic station with the former postal routes.
Hademstorf Lock also holds a special place: it is the only one of the four weirs near the mouth of the Leine to have been preserved in its original condition. However, the closure is important for your planning. An official notice dated 25 June 2026 states that, due to repair work, the lock will be continuously closed to traffic in all directions from 12 February 2026 to 1 January 2027. For technical reasons, the lock is also considered closed until further notice. Check its current status before travelling.
More Cultural Attractions in Heidekreis
The wider Heidekreis destination offers other distinct cultural attractions. The Hof der Heidmark in Bad Fallingbostel was built in 1642, dismantled in 1936 and rebuilt in Lieth Forest. It is a listed building and one of the oldest buildings in Heidekreis district. Walsrode Abbey is the oldest of the famous heathland monasteries.
Bear the rules at Bansee and the current closure status of the lock in mind when choosing your day’s destinations.
