Bad Bodenteich – Spa Park, Lake Meadows and History
Accommodation in Bad Bodenteich
Discover Bad Bodenteich from several very different angles: water and activities in the lakeside spa park, paths through the Seewiesen meadows, and history at the German Unity Museum and Bodenteich Castle. You can plan your stay around the experiences that interest you most—from activities on the water to walking routes and cultural history.
Water and Walking Routes
The lakeside spa park covers 20 hectares, 8 hectares of which are water. Activities include pedal boating and stand-up paddleboarding, and there are also walking paths. Kneipp arm and foot baths for children and adults, as well as a dew-walking meadow, round out the facilities. This puts water activities alongside walking paths and Kneipp experiences.
The Seewiesen nature trail is about 8 kilometres long, with a shorter option of around 3.5 kilometres. It follows the former lakeshore and crosses the former lake.
Marked hiking and Nordic walking routes start and finish at the Bad Bodenteich forest swimming pool; they are 5,350 and 5,600 metres long, respectively. These distances make it easy to compare the routes with the two Seewiesen options: both forest swimming pool routes are longer than the shorter route of about 3.5 kilometres and shorter than the route of around 8 kilometres.
Bodenteich Castle is a starting point for hikes, bike rides and walks. The Four-Hundred-Water Barefoot Trail connects the former Bodenteich moated castle with Robin Hood Castle in the Seewiesen meadows. For bike rides in the surrounding area, the Ilmenau Cycle Route, the Hanse-Wendland Cycle Route and the Elbe Lateral Canal offer useful guidance.
History in Bad Bodenteich
The German Unity Museum in Bad Bodenteich devotes its permanent exhibition to the border, border service, life in both German states and reunification. It is currently the only border museum in the district of Uelzen. The collection includes around 700 exhibits. The permanent exhibition brings together border history and everyday life in both German states.
Bodenteich Castle is also one of the historic highlights of the wider Uelzen destination. Founded around 1250, it is the only castle in the district of Uelzen, although only parts of it remain. Following its restoration from 1983 to 1988, it now houses the spa administration, citizens' office and castle museum.
Another trace of history leads to the brewery opposite the castle: from 1634 to 1918, the top-fermented dark beer Knorrbock was brewed there.
Experiences as a guide to choosing accommodation
The different route lengths give you a practical guide to walks and hikes; the museum, castle and brewery offer different cultural highlights. Consider which of these experiences will shape your trip, and use them to guide your search for accommodation in Bad Bodenteich.
