Neuharlingersiel: North Sea Beach, Harbour and BadeWerk
Accommodation in Neuharlingersiel
Neuharlingersiel combines a 20-hectare North Sea beach with maritime themes, active pursuits and a special focus on wellness. You can tailor your stay in different ways: spend time by the water, learn about seafaring or enjoy experiences in the Wadden Sea. When looking for accommodation, it is also worth first considering which of these aspects of the town you want to shape your trip.
Water, mudflats and activity
BadeWerk Neuharlingersiel has a seawater indoor pool with a water temperature of 31 °C and seven themed saunas. BadeWerk also features 400-year-old natural mud, described as unique. Swimming, sauna and natural mud therefore offer a distinct kind of experience alongside activities on the beach and in the Wadden Sea.
Expert-led mudflat walks from Neuharlingersiel take you through the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are interested in kitesurfing or windsurfing, you will find the Windloop station right on the beach. Among other things, it offers a two-day beginners’ course covering the theoretical and practical basics. The course gives you a clearly defined timeframe, while mudflat walks offer a different way to explore the landscape.
Harbour life and maritime history
During the season, harbour concerts take place every Sunday at the concert shell by the harbour. Choirs and shanty choirs perform, and the specific programme may vary. If you would like to plan your visit around a concert, check the latest dates in advance.
Discover maritime history at the Buddelschiff Museum. It displays around 100 faithful ship models in bottles and offers insights into the history of seafaring, from 200 BC to the modern nuclear submarine. The miniature models and broad historical sweep offer a different focus from experiences on the water. Neuharlingersiel’s fishing boats still head out into the North Sea to catch shrimp.
During the season, regular excursions on shrimp-fishing boats depart from Neuharlingersiel. You can observe seals near their sandbanks. These trips combine a glimpse of maritime tradition with the chance to watch wildlife out at sea. Check the latest departure times before your trip.
Find accommodation to suit your plans
When choosing accommodation, start with the experiences that matter most to you: BadeWerk and natural mud, seafaring history, mudflat walks or seasonal boat trips each offer a different focus. Also consider whether a two-day course fits your plans, or whether you would rather take individual activities and event dates into account. This helps you tailor your accommodation search to your travel group’s interests and the pace you want for your stay.
Discover other sides of the wider Wittmund destination
The wider Wittmund destination also offers nature and culture, each with its own character. Wittmund Forest covers more than 700 hectares and has several hiking trails and paths for woodland walks and cycle rides. The forest contains a circular bog, described as a glacial Pingo remnant, with a viewing platform and bench.
The Peldemühle is another part of the history of the wider Wittmund destination. It was built in 1741 to shell barley; the complex included a residential building and a barn. The Peldemühle is considered the oldest single-storey gallery Dutch windmill in north-west Germany. These woodland and mill themes add further perspectives on Wittmund to Neuharlingersiel’s coastal and seafaring highlights.
