Discover Wolfsburg: Art, Technology and Time by the Water
Accommodation in Wolfsburg
Wolfsburg brings together contemporary art, striking architecture, castle history and active days by the water. Whether you prefer exploring exhibitions and historic rooms or spending time outdoors by the lake, the city offers a range of experiences.
Discover art, technology and architecture
In the city centre, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg presents changing exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. The AutoMuseum offers a different focus: its exhibits include a classic T1 bus, the TV star “Herby” and artfully designed special bodies. Wolfsburg thus offers different ways to explore art and design, alongside a unique collection devoted to automobiles.
The phaeno science centre also combines its own thematic focus with distinctive architecture. More than 300 phenomena invite visitors to explore science and technology. The science centre is housed in a spectacular architectural sculpture designed by star architect Zaha Hadid. Those interested in scientific topics will find a different focus here from the art and automobile museums.
Castle history and historic gardens
Wolfsburg Castle was founded 700 years ago and is one of the best-known architectural monuments of the North German Renaissance. The approximately 26-hectare castle park surrounding it invites visitors to stroll, relax and view sculptures. The architecture and park offer different ways to engage with this historic site.
The city museum at M2K offers guided tours of the Garden Hall, the Court Arbour and the Hunting Hall, as well as the former Baroque garden and English landscape garden of Wolfsburg Castle. The Neuhaus Castle museum offers another glimpse into history: original artefacts and models tell the story of the site’s medieval founding, the lives of the knights and the development of the former Neuhaus district. The castle offers public guided tours, trails and special events on the construction and history of the Wolfsburg monument. If you plan to join a tour or attend an event, it is best to check the dates before your trip.
Days at Allersee and in the great outdoors
The public Allerpark activity park covers 130 hectares and offers lakeside walks, a high ropes course and a sandy beach. Visitors can swim, sail and go stand-up paddleboarding at Allersee. This means you can choose between walks and activities on the water during your stay at Allerpark.
The Wakepark Wolfsburg is another option for active pursuits. Located on an artificial lake, it has a 568-metre cableway with six masts. Thanks to its moderate lap length and gentle turns, the cableway is considered suitable for beginners and children, too. For longer hikes and cycling tours in Wolfsburg, Allerpark can serve as a starting point, complementing the lakeside activities with trips on land.
Plan your journey and accommodation
Wolfsburg is connected to the long-distance ICE rail network and can be reached via the A39 and A2 motorways. These connections provide a useful starting point for planning your journey. You can then tailor your search to the experiences you want to shape your stay.
