Thulendorf can be explored through two specific themes: the history of the village church and a new cycling connection. When planning your trip, you can decide whether your focus should be on architecture and memorial culture or on an active cycling tour.

Church and Local History

The listed village church is a historic building in Thulendorf. Its fieldstone structure with a flat roof was probably built in the 13th century. Remnants of wall paintings have been preserved inside the church, including a depiction of John the Baptist, which is thought to date from the mid-17th century. The simple altar also comes from a precisely specified year: 1664.

The building and its furnishings are clearly from different periods: the building is dated to the 13th century, while the wall paintings and altar date from the 17th century; only the altar’s year, 1664, is known precisely. The Rostock district monument list dated 14 May 2024 records the church, cemetery and enclosure together as a single property. It also lists a memorial to the fallen of 1914–18 in Thulendorf.

Cycle Connection Towards the B110

Officially opened on 18 June 2026, the cycle path is 1,690 metres long and 2.5 metres wide. It runs as a separate auxiliary route and connects Thulendorf with the existing cycle path along the B110 from Sanitz to Rostock. From Thulendorf, the new connection also makes it easier to reach the railway station, the municipal administration in Broderstorf or Rostock. Before setting out on a planned ride, it is advisable to check the current status of the route.

This allows you to weigh up cultural attractions and cycling as different ways to shape your stay.

A Festival on a Specific Date

A specific look back at community life is the harvest festival held on 27 September 2025. The programme began with a traditional service in the well-attended Thulendorf church. It also included a parade with agricultural vehicles, as well as music and games on the festival grounds.

More to Explore in the Rostock Destination

The Rostock destination offers other travel interests with a different character. The Rostock region includes 62 kilometres of Baltic Sea coastline and a number of seaside resorts. The historic Molli narrow-gauge railway runs between Kühlungsborn and Bad Doberan and is the oldest narrow-gauge railway on the Baltic coast. Buses and trains also operate in the Rostock district as part of the transport association; with a single ticket, holidaymakers can travel throughout the region, including the Hanseatic and university city of Rostock. This makes it possible to distinguish Thulendorf’s local cycling connection from regional travel planning involving the coast, rail and public transport. The Rostock region’s coastal hinterland also includes the river valleys of the Warnow and Recknitz, adding another type of landscape to the Baltic coast for your trip planning.
