Discover Schorssow through its defining features: Haussee, fringed by trees; Seeschloss in its English-style landscaped park; and routes for walking and cycling. Haussee is located in the village of Schorssow, near Lake Malchin in the district of Rostock. If you want to combine several interests during your stay, these different highlights can help you find your way around.

Haussee and Castle Park

A 2021 official environmental report identifies Haussee Schorssow as part of the “Mecklenburg Lake District” Nature Park and the “Forest and Small Waterbody Landscape South of Teterow” FFH area. The lakeshore has a dense fringe of trees, except at the bathing area and the castle grounds. Seeschloss Schorssow is located directly on Haussee in an English-style landscaped park. Two different scales are therefore useful when getting your bearings: the specific lakeshore and the protected-area designations that extend beyond the lake. The nature park and the castle’s lakeside setting offer different perspectives on the same landscape.

On foot and by bike

The Haussee circular hiking trail follows the western shore and is marked with a green dot. Check the signs and trail conditions before setting out for a walk. Numerous cycling routes through the Mecklenburg Switzerland also begin directly in front of Seeschloss. This places a specific stretch of lakeshore alongside routes through a larger landscape as different points of reference. If you are travelling together, you can easily accommodate different interests: those who enjoy walking can follow the Haussee circular hiking trail, while cyclists can explore the routes through the Mecklenburg Switzerland.

Tours in the wider region

The Small Castle Tour is a circular route of about 25 kilometres that takes in castles, avenues and villages. The approximately 33-kilometre “Around Lake Malchin” cycling tour passes through the Ice Age-shaped landscape of the Mecklenburg Switzerland and by picturesque churches and old tree-lined roads. The tours differ both in their approximate length and in what they feature: the Small Castle Tour focuses on castles, avenues and villages, while the cycling tour also takes in landscapes, churches and old tree-lined roads. So, when choosing, you can consider the cultural and landscape features described as well as the distance. Check route conditions before setting off.

Culture and other local highlights

Schorssow’s sights also include a thatched fisherman’s house. On 18 July 2026, the Haussee Festival presented the seventh instalment of the Ruin Saga—the open-air medieval drama “The Fateful Sign”—on the stage by Schorssow’s Haussee. The fisherman’s house adds another named local highlight alongside the castle, while the 2026 festival brought the stage directly to Haussee.
