Priepert: Water, Forest and Village History
Accommodation in Priepert
Priepert combines a special location on the water with forest trails and a tangible village history. The village lies on a peninsula between Lake Ellbogensee and Lake Großer Priepertsee. Kayaks, Canadian canoes and motorboats offer different ways to explore the water; on land, trails lead to a rock garden and historic sites. A half-timbered church dating from 1719 and the Priepert Local History Room also give the village its own distinctive cultural and historical character.
Between Two Lakes, Forest and Glacial Erratics
Priepert covers 2,258 hectares, of which 585 hectares are water. Its location between two lakes shapes the character of the landscape. When hiking through Priepert’s forests, you will pass a rock garden with glacial erratics from different ice ages. This is a way to explore the area on foot while gaining a special perspective on its glacially shaped rock formations.
Boat Rentals and Time at the Lido
The Priepert canoe station rents kayaks, Canadian canoes and motorboats that can be operated without a licence. You can choose between paddle boats and motorboats to explore the water. Check availability before your trip; for motorboats, you should also confirm the applicable conditions.
Priepert has a waterway rest area for touring boaters. It offers affordable overnight stays in a tent you bring with you. This option is intended for touring boaters and requires your own tent; if you plan to use it, it is best to confirm availability before your trip.
Children can enjoy a range of play equipment at the lido. There is also a beach volleyball court and a chessboard with oversized pieces. If you are travelling with children, this is a good place to take a break together; volleyball and giant chess add more activities to the mix.
Forest Trail and Practical Information
The Ofenweg hiking trail starts in Priepert and leads to information boards at a former tar kiln and a former lime kiln. These stops give the hike a historical connection. Before setting out, check whether trail conditions are suitable for the walk.
From April to October, you can reach the Ofenweg by Kleinseenbus, getting off at the Priepert stop. Check the timetable before travelling. Parking is available at the start and end points of the Ofenweg. You can plan your route around either the bus or your car.
Church and Local History Room
The half-timbered church in Priepert was built in 1719. Inside, there is a Baroque altar, a Baroque pulpit and a suspended baptismal angel. The church is situated on a pilgrimage route. Duke Adolf Friedrich III of Mecklenburg-Strelitz also used the church until his palace in Glienicke was completed. Its architecture, furnishings and this historical connection offer different ways to explore the village’s history.
The Priepert Local History Room is housed in the former village school and displays historical artefacts. These include household items, books and clothing from earlier times. Outside, you can also see old farming implements from the last century. The Local History Room and its grounds offer different glimpses into everyday life in the past.
Choose the Right Focus for Your Stay
If you are looking for accommodation in Priepert, your preferred focus for the trip can help guide your choice: for days on the water, boat rentals and the waterway rest area are good starting points. The forest and Ofenweg are ideal for walks, while the church and Local History Room offer cultural and historical experiences. Search according to what you would like to do, and check that the location of your chosen accommodation suits your plans.
