Voigtsdorf: Village Pond, Circular Trail and Buttel Church
Accommodation in Voigtsdorf
Voigtsdorf can be explored on two levels: in the village itself, with its village pond, wooden pavilion, circular trail and Protestant Buttel Church, and as part of the larger Mecklenburg Lake District destination, with its other nature and landscape attractions. The local trails offer a short introduction; the “Brohmer Berge & Randowtal Circular Route” cycling path also passes through Voigtsdorf. When choosing accommodation, it is therefore helpful to consider whether you mainly want to explore the village itself or plan your trip around the wider Mecklenburg Lake District.
The Buttel Church and its architectural history
The Protestant church in Voigtsdorf was built from 1835 to 1855 to plans by building councillor Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel in the Neo-Gothic style. Fieldstone and brick were used as building materials. Its orientation is also precisely described: the church runs from northeast to southwest, and the church tower is attached to the building at the northeast end. Its construction period, architectural style and materials offer architecture enthusiasts specific points of interest in the village landscape. It is currently closed for structural reasons; check its status before visiting.
On foot, by the pond and on a bike
In the center of Voigtsdorf, a wooden pavilion stands close to the well-maintained village pond. It invites cyclists to stop and relax, and can also serve as a starting point for a short, scenic walk along the VOIGTSDORF CIRCULAR TRAIL. The route passes the Buttel Church and the village pond; the church is surrounded by mature trees. The hiking trail around Voigtsdorf offers a chance to experience the area’s rich wildlife. Along the way, there is also a wonderful view of the village and its distinctive church tower, which is visible from far away.
The short walk and the cycling route cover different distances: the approximately 211 km “Brohmer Berge & Randowtal Circular Route” passes through Voigtsdorf. Its total length is very different from the short local loop. In summer, the village pond is inviting for a swim. A walk with views of the church and village, a longer cycling route and a seasonal swimming experience are thus different ways to enjoy the village landscape.
Events and finding your way around the village
Cultural life is also part of Voigtsdorf’s character. The park with the cultural center of the Voigtsdorfer Rettungstrupp e. V. regularly hosts entertaining events that are popular beyond the municipality. If you would like to attend a particular event, check the dates before your trip.
In Voigtsdorf, bus route 502 serves three stops: Voigtsdorf, Voigtsdorf Ausbau and Lindower Weg. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable in advance, as services and travel times can change. Together with the central pavilion and village trails, these stops make it easier to find your way around when planning your stay.
The Mecklenburg Lake District as a wider travel destination
Beyond Voigtsdorf, the Mecklenburg Lake District destination offers further nature attractions. Müritz National Park is part of this region and is characterized by forests, moors, lakes and wide meadows. The Müritz National Park hiking trail explores the park’s landscapes and features in nine stages. It runs along lakes, through ancient forests, past inland dunes and as far as the source of the Havel. Certified nature and landscape guides offer educational tours there, including guided walks in the Serrahn beech forest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and tours from the water.
Another example in the Mecklenburg Lake District is the Damerower Werder Bison Reserve. It lies on a peninsula in Lake Kölpin and in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe bison there. The reserve also has a forest adventure trail with climbing features, an anthill house, an exhibition with tactile and visual displays, and a dendrophone.
