Wokuhl-Dabelow: Lake, Nature and Buttel Church
Accommodation in Wokuhl-Dabelow
Wokuhl-Dabelow combines lakes and nature with a distinctive building in Dabelow. Lutowsee lies in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft Nature Park within the municipality of Wokuhl-Dabelow and is a long, relatively uniform glacial channel lake. Its elongated shape gives the waterscape a distinctive character. If you like to vary your activities, you can choose from three themes: time at the bathing area in Herzwolde, observing nature and culture at Buttel Church.
Time by the Water and Nature Observation
The bathing area on Lutowsee in Herzwolde has a small sunbathing lawn and a jetty. If you’re looking for a specific place to swim as a focal point for the day, you’ll find a direct connection to the water here. Another attraction in Wokuhl-Dabelow is the eagle observation platform on Brückentiner Island. A camera at a white-tailed eagle’s nest at the white-tailed eagle observation point was jointly operated by the nature park and Inselhotel Brückentinsee. The bathing area and birds of prey observation offer different options for planning your day: one focuses on time by the water, the other on an interest in eagles and white-tailed eagles.
Guests at the BrĂĽckentin Youth Nature Conservation Academy can go on trips by bicycle, boat and canoe. This means guests at the academy can also plan activities on land or on the water during their stay.
Half-Timbered Architecture and Culture in Dabelow
Buttel Church in Dabelow is a half-timbered church built in 1855. It was built by master builder, senior building officer and grand ducal court architect Friedrich-Wilhelm Buttel. Exhibitions and concerts are held in the church several times a year. The town thus combines a distinctive building with recurring cultural events. If you’re planning your visit around a particular concert or exhibition, it’s a good idea to check the latest dates.
Accommodation and Trip Planning
A four-star hotel with a restaurant is located on the 40,000-square-metre Herz Island in Großer Brückentinsee. If you’re considering staying at the hotel, check current availability before booking. To plan the rest of your trip, you could first consider whether you want to focus your stay mainly on local themes such as water and culture, or also include nature experiences elsewhere in the wider destination.
Mecklenburg Lake District: More Nature Themes
If you’re planning a trip to the Mecklenburg Lake District as a whole, you’ll find additional nature and landscape themes. Müritz National Park is part of this region and is characterised by forests, bogs, lakes and vast meadows. Its hiking trail explores the park’s landscape types and special features over nine stages. It leads past lakes, through ancient forests, by inland dunes and to the source of the Havel. The stages and changing landscapes give this experience a different character from the individual nature observation sites in Wokuhl-Dabelow.
Certified nature and landscape guides offer informative tours through Müritz National Park, including guided visits to the UNESCO World Heritage beech forest in Serrahn and tours from the water. Damerower Werder bison reserve is also in the Mecklenburg Lake District: it is located on a peninsula in Kölpinsee and in Nossentiner/Schwinzer Heath Nature Park. Visitors can observe bison there. A forest adventure trail adds to the nature experience with climbing opportunities, an anthill house, an exhibition with tactile and visual panels, and a dendrophone. The wider region therefore offers further nature experiences, without confusing them with the sights and activities within the municipality.
