Discover Zingst: Sea, culture and experiments
Accommodation in Zingst
Zingst takes you from the history of the peninsula through Neo-Gothic architecture to hands-on experiments and water sports on the Baltic Sea. A former captain’s house, the pier with its diving gondola and the sports beach at beach access 14 show how varied a stay can be. There are also events, a sandy beach and routes to the Sundische Wiese National Park exhibition.
History, architecture and culture
The history of the Zingst peninsula is rooted in a former 19th-century captain’s house, which now houses the Zingst Local History Museum and presents the peninsula’s past. The historic museum courtyard includes several restored buildings furnished with authentic furniture and objects. They offer insights into rural life in centuries past, bringing everyday history to the fore.
The Neo-Gothic St. Peter and Paul Church was built to plans by Friedrich August StĂĽler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and consecrated in 1862. A series of evening concerts is held in the church every summer. Its architecture and music thus offer two different ways to enjoy a cultural stay.
The Zingsthof was built in 1929 and became significant during the Nazi era as a place of work and meeting for members of the Confessing Church. The sailors’ grave in the cemetery recalls Zingst’s maritime tradition and commemorates seafarers who lost their lives in the Baltic Sea. The Max Hünten House regularly hosts exhibition openings and multimedia shows, as well as readings and other cultural events throughout the year. If you have a particular concert or event in mind, check the current programme.
Get involved and experience the water
The Zingst Experimentarium offers children and adults more than 70 interactive stations for experimenting with science and technology. There is also a varied workshop programme where visitors can create their own works of art. Here, discovery goes hand in hand with creativity.
Zingst has a sandy beach up to 30 metres wide and free of stones, which is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months. In the Baltic Sea, visitors can swim, paddle, kiteboard, surf, sail and kayak. At the sports beach by beach access 14, they can windsurf, kiteboard and enjoy the sunset on a stand-up paddleboard. Courses in a wide range of water sports are available at the water sports centre, where you can also rent the necessary equipment. Whether you can take part depends on conditions and availability with the provider.
The pier and diving gondola
The current Zingst Pier was inaugurated in May 1993 and is 270 metres long and 2.50 metres wide. It invites visitors to take a stroll in every season. Since 2013, a diving gondola at the end of the pier has had room for up to 30 people, allowing visitors to explore the underwater world of the Baltic Sea. A walk along the pier and an underwater exploration offer different experiences in the same place.
Routes and choosing accommodation
The Sundische Wiese National Park exhibition can also be reached from Zingst, on foot or by bike via the sea dyke and Osterwald, or by road heading east. Road conditions and local restrictions may vary; take them into account when planning your route.
Then tailor your search to your own plans for each day. This will help you assess an accommodation’s location according to the experiences you want to make the focus of your stay.
