Ahlbeck Seaside Resort – Beach, Pier and History
Accommodation in Ahlbeck Seaside Resort
Ahlbeck Seaside Resort combines a Baltic Sea beach, promenade and distinctive buildings with a long history. The pier was built in 1898 and is considered Germany’s oldest surviving pier. A historic clock dating from 1911 stands on the forecourt and is also a popular photo spot. Along the coast, everyday holiday activities such as enjoying the beach and staying active meet traces of times gone by.
Beach, pier and promenade
Lifeguards patrol Ahlbeck Beach during the summer season. In the direction of Świnoujście, there are designated beach areas for naturists and for dogs and their owners. The Kaiserbäder sports beach is located at beach access points 1 Y and 1 Z between the piers in Ahlbeck and Heringsdorf. Each of these different beach areas gives your day by the sea its own character.
There are also various ways to stay active along the promenade. There is a small sports court with goals and hoops, and you can use the fitness equipment on the activity promenade free of charge. Cyclists can ride from the promenade in Ahlbeck across the Polish border to Świnoujście. If you prefer hiking, Zirowberg is a popular destination offering lovely views of the Pomeranian Bay. Time at the beach, cycling and views from a hiking destination each add a different touch to your day’s plans.
Architectural history and fishing
In 1700, the village of “Ahlbeck adlig” was founded when a watermill was built on the Beek stream. A later chapter in the town’s history is represented by Ahlbeck village church. It was built in 1895 at the initiative of Ahlbeck’s residents as a solid Prussian brick building in the Neo-Gothic style. Inside, the altar, baptismal font and octagonal wooden pulpit are worth seeing. Several distinctive buildings in the resort architecture style add to Ahlbeck’s historic character.
The open-air fishing exhibition in Ahlbeck offers insights into the world of fishermen, their history and their future. If you are planning a visit, check the latest visitor information beforehand. Fresh fish is also part of what’s on offer at the fishermen’s beaches, where you’ll find sales stands or associated restaurants. Operators and offerings may change.
The OstseeTherme Usedom in Ahlbeck offers a different kind of bathing experience. Its bathing and sauna area features pleasantly warm thermal water; three of its six pools contain 4% iodine brine. Ahlbeck brings together a wide variety of experiences: the beach and pier, outdoor activities, architectural history, fishing and bathing facilities.
Choose accommodation to suit your travel priorities
