Discover Halle (Westphalia)
Accommodation in Halle/Westphalia
Halle (Westphalia) combines protected landscapes, marked hiking trails, cycling routes and a specialist museum to create a varied travel destination. The Tatenhausen Forest Nature Reserve covers 114 hectares and is located in the Halle districts of Hörste and Bokel. Nature, exercise and art give a stay different accents; depending on your interests, you can shape your time in Halle in different ways.
Forest, trails and landscapes
More than 200 kilometres of cycling and hiking trails offer a variety of ways to explore Halle actively. One specific cycling leg is the “Radweg für Genießer” (Cycling Route for Connoisseurs), starting in Halle city centre. It crosses the Teuto ridge, passes through Patthorst and Tatenhausen Forest, and continues through the wet meadows in Hörste. Along this leg, the ridge, forest and wet meadows represent a succession of different landscapes. This cycling option differs from the “Haller Spuren” walking route, which also includes a named historic trail section.
On the “Haller Spuren” circular hiking trail, a section about 1.5 kilometres long follows the “Geschichtspfad Waldbegräbnisse” (Forest Burials History Trail). This distance refers to that section, not the entire loop. Near the end of the circular trail is the “Kaffeemühle” viewpoint. The route is clearly signposted in both directions; its marker is a green sign with white footprints and the words “Haller Spuren”. This identifies a specific section of the trail, a viewpoint and the marker used for navigation.
Art from childhood and youth
The Museum of Childhood and Youth Works by Important Artists in Halle (Westphalia) offers a different focus. It displays childhood and youth works by, among others, Conrad FelixmĂĽller, Paul and Felix Klee, August Macke, Friedrich Karl Gotsch, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Pablo Picasso. The collection is united by the age of the works: the focus is on pieces from early stages in the lives of the artists named. Alongside the landscape and outdoor activities, this provides a specific cultural theme for your stay.
Getting here and finding accommodation
The RB 75 regional train, known as the “Haller Willem”, connects Halle (Westphalia) with Bielefeld every half hour on weekdays and with Osnabrück every hour. When looking for accommodation, you could first consider what you want your trip to focus on: the cycling leg through varied landscapes, the circular trail with its historic section and viewpoint, or a visit to the museum.
