Discover Hiddenhausen
Accommodation in Hiddenhausen
Hiddenhausen brings together six villages with historic farms, peaceful parks and old listed buildings. The town is centrally located in the Teutoburg Forest holiday region, between the Teutoburg Forest and the Wiehen Hills. Cultural history and nature experiences offer different highlights: from woodworking and the architectural history of Gut Bustedt to nature reserves, hiking trails and a regional cycling route. When planning your trip, consider whether museums and historical themes or outdoor activities should shape your stay.
Craftsmanship and history
The Hiddenhausen History Trail comprises twelve activity stations. The Hiddenhausen Woodworking Museum features more than 1,500 historical exhibits on woodworking; it also includes a fully equipped old carpentry workshop. The trail, collection and workshop each offer a different perspective on cultural history.
Right next to the museum, Café Alte Werkstatt serves coffee specialities, homemade cakes and gateaux. As the selection may change, check what is on offer before your visit.
The Hiddenhausen Museum School offers historical lessons that recreate teaching in a Prussian village school. Advance registration is required for these lessons.
Gut Bustedt: architectural history and biology
Gut Bustedt was built as a moated castle around 600 years ago and expanded into a water palace around 1650. Since 1982, it has been a biology centre offering active environmental education and outdoor biology lessons. Its historic architecture and present-day focus on environmental education sit side by side.
The grounds can also be visited at other times. Check in advance what visiting options are available for your chosen date. By car, you can reach Gut Bustedt via the Hiddenhausen exit on the A30; parking is available at the estate. Please check the latest information before setting out.
Hiking and cycling
Three nature reserves around Hiddenhausen invite you to explore varied landscapes on walks and hikes. The FĂĽllenbruch Nature Reserve runs alongside ZiegelstraĂźe and the former narrow-gauge railway line in Hiddenhausen. The former railway line also serves as a cycle route through Hiddenhausen and connects to the regional Soleweg trail.
As a themed hike in Hiddenhausen, Füllenbruch – N&K Route 18 covers 6.56 kilometres; the Denkmal-Route Hiddenhausen is a 20.65-kilometre regional cycle tour that passes around 250 metres from Hiddenhausen-Schweicheln station. This gives you a choice between a shorter hike and a longer cycling tour. Check the current condition of the routes before setting out.
