Rödinghausen lies on the southern slope of the Wiehen Hills in the Ravensberg Hills. Nature trails, landscapes and historic buildings offer a variety of experiences: you can focus your stay on outdoor activities or explore individual cultural landmarks. When choosing accommodation, it is worth first deciding which activities matter most to you. The different trail features can help you plan your days by distance and type of route.

Hiking and cycling

The “twas duüer - querdurch” nature trail is 9.5 kilometres long. There are 15 information panels along the route, offering a playful way to learn. If you are interested in a hike that combines learning with fun, the trail length and information panels provide practical guidance for planning.

The A-loop is approximately 2,000 metres long and accessible. The Wunderroute covers around 4.4 kilometres, forms a circular route and is suitable for pushchairs. You can compare the two trails by their different features: the A-loop is shorter and accessible, while the Wunderroute offers a longer circuit that is designated as pushchair-friendly.

The RadKulTour Rödinghausen route adds a dedicated cycling option. It is well signposted and runs mostly along North Rhine-Westphalia’s cycle route network. When planning, you can therefore compare the walking routes described above with a dedicated cycling route.

Landscapes and views

The scenery includes southern views across the Ravensberg Hills and the North German Plain. How far you can see depends on the weather. The Bieren church lime tree also adds a natural and cultural landmark; it is believed to be around 350 years old. Sweeping landscapes and a single distinctive tree thus offer different reasons to spend time outdoors.

Traces of history

Haus Kilver was first documented in 851. St Bartholomew’s Church has fabric dating from the 16th century; its oldest parts date from the 12th century. Rödinghausen thus brings together different historical periods: an early documentary mention and a church with architectural elements from several centuries. If you are interested in history, you can consider these topics as a focus for your trip, alongside the routes and landscape.

Getting here by regional transport

Regional transport access is available via Bieren-Rödinghausen station and the Mesch Neue Mühle stop. If access by public transport is important when choosing where to stay, you can take these names into account when planning. Check current connections and timetables before travelling.
