Neubeckum brings together a range of travel ideas: an outdoor pool with water and play areas, open landscapes in the nature reserve south of town, and paved paths for walking. There is also a cycling route and local history.

Water, play and a street festival

Neubeckum’s outdoor pool has a water area of 1,200 square metres. In addition to a swimming pool with six lanes and diving platforms, there is a non-swimmers’ pool with two slides, a paddling pool, a playground and areas for ball games. This offers a variety of options: swimming laps, playing in the water and activities on land. If you are travelling with children, you can factor this mix into your plans for a day at the pool.

The Sonnenblumenfest Neubeckum is another reason to visit. This family-friendly street festival is for all ages and has been held since 2005. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the dates for that year’s festival before making your plans.

Nature reserve and walking paths

The Halbtrockenrasen south of Neubeckum nature reserve (WAF-039) covers around 8 hectares of gently rolling land at a former limestone quarry. The area includes open spaces with semi-dry grassland, as well as various stages of natural succession, from scrub and young woodland to forest. The contrast between open terrain and the different stages of woodland and forest shapes the landscape.

Paved paths along the wooded Hellbach stream and on the Harberg hill are ideal for walks. This provides a focus for your day apart from cycling and experiencing nature, without combining the two walking areas into a single route.

Neubeckum’s history and cycling route

A notable landmark for architecture enthusiasts is the Protestant Christuskirche in the Neubeckum district. It was built in the neo-Gothic style from 1899 to 1900. Its precise construction dates and architectural style make the church a specific point of interest for a culturally focused stay.

The 27-kilometre local Zementroute Beckum cycling route connects the districts of Beckum, Neubeckum, Roland and Vellern. As part of the wider Beckum destination, it forms a scenic circular route through the cement-producing region. It offers insights into past and present industrial cement production, passing abandoned industrial heritage sites and landscape oases. The route thus combines a specific cycling trail with industrial history and scenery.

More experiences in the wider Beckum destination

The Höxberg Panorama Circular Trail is a 14-kilometre circular hiking route where you can experience Beckum’s natural and cultural landscapes as well as the town’s history. It consists of two sections that can each be hiked separately: the approximately 8-kilometre “Höxberg Adventure Trail” and the approximately 6-kilometre “Trip to the Megalithic Tomb.” You can choose one section or the full route. The trail is suitable for families but is not barrier-free.

The Pütt-Tage are held every year as a town festival throughout Beckum’s city centre on the weekend of the first Sunday in September. The programme includes a stage, market stalls, activities and food and drink. If you are planning a trip around the festival, it is worth checking the dates and programme for that year’s event.

Another way to explore Beckum independently is the location-based “Beckum AR City Tour.” The virtual mascot “Kater Murr” guides visitors to sights in the town of Beckum. If you plan to take this city tour, check that the app is currently available beforehand.
